I havent read all threads so i hope ill get the answer here...

used NOVAK booster , don't need li-po cutoff !
or choice Intellect IP Li-Fe 6.6V receiver battery !

grt,

Well done for the original thinking again Benedict :D Beautifully designed carbon parts again.

I'm just not sure about the front to rear weight distribution with the LiPo so far forwards.

The TQ booster doesn't have LiPo cutoff circuitry.

That said, unless you're running AGRESSIVE Mod there's no need for cutoff. 13.5 with LOTS of advance, etc I'm still using less than 3000 mah from my 4900mah batteries so I know I've got PLENTY of room to run 10.5 and even (probably) a fair bit lower.

imo cutoff is mostly for bashers driving around in their cul-de-sac or wherever. I haven't seen a situation where it would even be useful (to say nothing of needed) in actual racing other than the aforementioned LOW LOW LOW turn mod motors. I'm sure I could practice for 15 minutes (+ or -) without battery problems, but anything much longer than 9 or so and you're not learning anything new as the battery is in the low half of it's charge and you've probably run the tires off by then.

Interesting design Benedict.

Mugen10 11-20-2009 06:48 PM

 A cool looking car design. I would like to see it on a track.

I saw a post on the gauge of wire used. I have been using 18ga wire for 17.5 and 13.5 and have not had any heat issues.

battery booster ??

I do have LRP new SXX esc- If i read right the esc have inboard li-po cut off so if i have li-fe 6.6v reciever battery i can run without any bosters just the reciver battery ?? is that correct ??

grt,
Benedict

Well, when I seen a belgian colleague I need to show the pics of my Q12... Benedict, I'll have to meet you somewhere ;)
My car is running nice with the 2s Life,I also made sure a 1S Lipo could also be installed (according to roar specs).
My chassis isnt equipped with a T-Bar or a std link but rather with a panhard bar, effectively dividing rear grip wide along the rear axle.
Benedict, you're chassis seems to be wider than std or does it just seem to?

disclaimer: this post was written after drinking a few "Rocheford 10" beers, any spelling mistakes are to blame on this beer ;)

Who has the best price on 1s batteries? Coming from 1/8th scale ele. to 1/12th scale I was quite supperised at the cost of 1s packs, they cost as much as I was paying for 4s packs:eek:
Thanks in advance

SMC are good batteries. It depends on if you want a Deans connector or banana plugs. I like the banana plug batteries. They are much cleaner look. Look at the SMC CMAX batter.

If you buy in the US it's going to be $60 +/- $5 for any of the current crop of 40C-50C 1S lipos (ROAR Legal) from any of the online shops. I prefer the SMC CMax packs because of the bullet connectors but from all the testing it seems Thunderpower has better numbers. The other options are the Trinity IP's and Reedys which you can't go wrong with either. I've seen some places overseas for $40 but once you pay for shipping and the 2 weeks transit time it's cost neutral.

The front of the center shock on that LMP12 will be significantly higher than normal, wont that effect steering a lot?

I don't know what the SXX specs are for cutoff, but if it handles cutoff for 1s LiPO's, then yes the LiFe 6.6v receiver pack will be all you'll need.

Hi guys, I ran with a 1c LiPo for the first time yesterday, and just wanted to ask some questions about charging them. I use a Robitronic Overloader charger and a couple of the 40c / 4600mAh Reedy LiPo packs. When you set the charger up, I put that the max capacity is 4600mAh, so it automatically sets the charge rate at a max of 4.6Amps. The charger started the charge cycle at around 1.5 amps, then went up to 4.6 and then eventually back done to .1 amp. Is this correct? It took ages to charge each pack and bearing in mind that this was the first time I have used LiPo, I just wanted to make sure that everything was as it should be. Oh, I set the discharge voltage to 3.1v and discharged them once home, then charged them back up again. The charge took 83 minutes!! Thanks in advance guys, cheers.

Scottrik 11-22-2009 01:12 PM

What you are describing is how CC/CV charging works. The charge starts in CC (Constant Current) mode which is pretty much how we're used to seeing charging. At some certain point (90% capacity or so?) the charger switches over to a CV (Constant Voltage) charging mode where the battery is maintained at a pre-determined voltage and charging current gradually drops off.

ANY battery charged at constant 1C (LiPo or NiMH, etc) would take approximately 1 hour to charge from complete discharge. Having the algorithm change off so the last 10% or so of capacity is charged at an ever reducing rate makes 83 minutes total seem quite reasonable.

That said, right now my batteries are taking something less than 3000mah to recharge after a heat (13.5 SuperStock class) so the recharge at 4.9amps (1C) takes about 45-50 minutes.
