I tried searching this thread and was surprised there wasn't an answer for this. In 17.5/13.5 1s lipo on carpet the front tire to use are Jaco Black/Purple (or equivalents) because they are more 'consistent' throughout a run. Why is that? Why do you lose steering with 2x Pink or softern compounds less than half way through a run? Someone explained it is because there isn't enough heat generated in the tires in the stock classes so the harder compounds change less than the softer ones. Is there another reason?

It's very track specific actually. At Tri-State I mostly run magentas. The new carpet isn't developing any fuzz, so you don't get alot of pick up. Purples have more side-bite than magentas, but less initial steering, so once warmed up they have a TON more steering, but are still a bit less "twitchy" off-center than the magentas. I only run blacks when the traction is VERY high. In most circumstances blacks won't have very much steering at all.

I usually run a softer tire all around unless I'm at a bigger race with more then 70 or 80 cars on the track throughout the weekend.

At club (when it's run) I usually run a 35 shore front and a 30 shore rear, but at a bigger race I generally run either a 40/32 or a 38/32. All depends on what the carpet decides to do at that particular event. If it's fuzzy with a ton of grip I run the 40 fronts and if it's low fuzz and lower grip I run the 38 fronts.

On the rear I always like to stick to the softest two shores on the market, so I can always get as much power to the track as possible. I would rather my diff just take some punishment then have wheel spin.

Somewhere in the 70+mm range. Check temps closly. Gear up gear down, play with timining on can and ESC, it all factors in.

I'm running the Parma Speed 8, and I usually change my setup between mod and stock, not my tires. Once I find a tire combo that works well on the track surface, I don't like to stray away from it too much. I'm thinking of trying the Parma Blackhawks instead of the Jaco's. Last Parma tires I ran were the full dish rim style. Are these new tires better, worse, or the same?

The Parma Blackhawks are Jacos. The only differnce is the color of the rim.

There's more than one of them over here too :D but this is the one who has won 11 British 12th titles, made a few 12th Worlds As and is ex European TC champion. There's probably more but even he can't remember all of them

Does anyone running 12th scale outdoors on asphalt know of somewhere that sells large diameter untrued tyres? They seem to be in very short supply which is a shame cause the new generation trued tyres don't grip like I need them to on my track.
