Thanks for the help. I talked with Atomic and they should have the parts some time next week. They were out of the front suspension stuff, one-way and bars. Hope to get the car on the track in the next month.

Joe- Use one half of the diff to hold the rings down and polish them on 2000 grit wet n dry paper (use with water). You can easily achieve a mirror finish back on the diff rings. Remember to clean everything really well after you finish, the grit from wet n dry paper will wear everything out real quick if left in the diff!

I've been using this method since I bought the car...... over 150 packs and probably 5-6 rebuilds and I'm still on my original diff rings!

Before anyone mentions anything about being "cheap" I would recommend they try it first.... My diffs are easily smoother than the original setup !

Cool, thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, it's still gritty. Looks like I'll just have to buy new rings and balls.

Did you completely tear apart the diff to see if its inners where improperly assembled?

Otherwise go for the new diff balls and rings.

RCCadet, yes I did. It looked fine to me. Polishing the diff rings did help a little, but not much. Oh well.

Well if the new parts do not work out, send it to me and I will send mine to you, since I am using a one-way any how. I will e-mail Ralph about it and eventually fix it for myself since you will have my smooth diff.

I am sitting here spinning mine in my hand and since it was never really tightened for better steering into and out of turns it is still a virgin diff. I used a lithium based grease with teflon so it is smooth.

Did you replace the 2.4mm balls?... this is pretty much a throw away item. The small thrust bearing can usually last for quite a while. To extend the life of the thrust bearing you can flip the small diff rings over and re-use (note the different sizes!). The thrust bearing is the only part that is damn expensive... everything else on the car is cheap!

DTM: Joe said he checked every thing in the diff halves. It puzzles me too. I was thinking that the parts in one of the output halves were not assembled correctly but he said he checked it all. It doesn't seem right some how considering I've had my kit (1st batch) since March and the rear diff is smoooooth!

I have my car in pieces right now and removed the shieldings from the bearing for a good cleaning. My one-way is in need of a cleaning. As much as I have run the car lately I will have to break it down twice a month if not after every weekend of racing.

Just thinking out loud here. But could you possibly end up with a gritty diff if you reverse the two small diff rings on the thrust bearing. The smaller dia hole ring should be against the head of the screw to align everything.

If you have the large dia ring against the head of the screw instead the rotation of the thrust bearing will mean the rotation of the larger diameter ring which may be rubbing against the inside of the diff. This ring is normally static. Maybe a possibility....?!

I built my two diff out of stock box. they are great and i dont see any problem with the diff. are you guy just too picky?

I've got to admit that my car runs better (handling more predictable) when the diffs are slightly gritty than when they are super smooth! Maybe its just an excuse of mine to delay rebuilding the diffs!
