What spur and pinion are required for 21.5t ?

Part numbers would be awesome.

Cheers.
I recommend between a 72/75 spur gear 55/60 pinion

Thanks. I'll be converting the TB-03 to a VTA racer now.

What spur do you use for a 4.0 fdr ?
The gears from my 417 and ta05 seem thinner and
I need to chage the spur as the current one on it is a 96

Also how does a spool work in this car on carpet?
Or should I stick with diff?

Spool only.

I tried a diff, but couldn't get it tight enough. I didn't try building one with tamiya anti wear grease, and the TB04 gear diffs weren't available when I last tested.

Anyway, spool only.

Will the TB-03 spool gear fit on the TB-04 gear diff? I see a few retailers who have all the parts to build a couple gear diffs for my TB-03, but haven't seen anyone mention mounting the 39T ring to the gear diff. They share the same bulkhead trees, so they should drop right in, right?

You need the ring gear from the TB03D spool. Also, do not use the carbon rein gear cases. They have slightly less side to side clearance, and you can't shim the diff properly.

Took me a week to figure that one out.

i'm running the TB03 carbon reinforced gear cases in my TBO4... TB03 spool and TB04 gear diff dropped right in (0.1 shim on either side). i'm using the stock TB04 small pinion gear though, paired with the TB03's 39T large bevel gear. hths

Your gear diff is shimmed side to side wrong, I'm sure of it. It will have zero side to side lash with the pinion installed. Take the pinion out and you'll be able to move it. This means it's too tight, it shouldn't change when the pinion is installed.

Will it work with the side clearances wrong? Yes. Is it right? Absolutely not. Being too tight makes extra friction, and needlessly wears out the pinion prematurely.

The TB 03d spool is no problem. All the TB03 stuff has more side to side clearance for some reason.

Thanks for the info. I have the CR bulkheads installed now but still have the originals from the car on the tree. Hopefully the CR work, even with a little modification, as I tend to oblong the hole the ball studs are in with the softer plastic.
