Than you have enough with 10 boost.
What was your motor temp?
If it's ok gear it 1 tooth heavier and set your boost on 10.

I was running stock rubber TC with a Novak 17.5 geared 4.84 FDR and boost set to 10. The car ran strong and the temps stayed low (130 F). However, I do use a motor fan. I experimented with 15 boost and the motor did not overheat, but the car did not run as strong either.

Ive been running it on 15 boost... So if i go over ten boost will my performance suffer... mabe thats why my motors been running around 170ish after 8 minutes... ill back it off to 5 boost and see if i see any difference...
so the max timing i can go is motor timing + boost timing = 30 max???

I could be wrong, but I think the 25 degrees of "true" timing Novak states includes 15 degrees of "virtual" timing that Randy talks about...something about how the sensor sees the rotor coming, etc. etc...

Yeah mabe Randy will stop in and and give me some advice on what to do... for the mean time, ill set it at 5 boost, 25 + 5 = 30

It's quit simple.
It's motor timing + Boost + 15 = Total timing
This is the total timing.
Optimal Timing is between 35 and 45.
Set your boost 10 lower. Than you have 45.
You will notes that you have more power in the infield.
Watch the temp. When it's low and you have more than enough infield speed and you come to short on the straight, than you can gear a bit heavier.
With a higher boost it doesn't mean that you go faster.
When you use to much total timing, you will go slower. Your car has to work harder to reach his top speed.
Whit to much total timing you higher the RPM but you lower the power of the motor.

The Novak motor was supposed to have 12 degrees of timing. What originally wasn't realized was that the sensors have some "early read" which equates to about 15 degrees depending on the manufacturer.
So with an Novak I'd like to see timing boost around 15-25 depending on class.
I saw guys using Tekin RS/Novak 17.5 at the recent onroad race on the same track as the Reedy Race of Champions(Speedworld Raceway) and they were FDR'd around 3.8-4.1ish running 25 on the timing boost.
Now those that were running 199 were setup more like 15-20 on timing boost, full turbo(20) and a delay around .6 seconds with FDR's around 4.3-4.4ish. Of course they had a clear advantage.
Track was really hot, track temps were as high as 155 at one point. Ambient was 105. I pulled off in 17.5 around 190 with no fans/heatsinks. Others that used clip ons were pulling off 175 or so.
So with an Novak I'd like to see timing boost around 15-25 depending on class.
