Jochim_18 01-28-2011 07:05 PM

You the man Rick.. Can't wait to do some testing on the new chassis.

Jochim_18 01-28-2011 07:20 PM

Rick,

I think moving the battery 2-3 mm more to the side will balance the chassis even better. With the 1380 Roar minimum weight we probably don't even have to put weight on the battery side and have a perfectly balance car.

lyrragnus 01-29-2011 08:37 AM

Thinking about getting E4js

I want a better chassis for my sidewinder 5700 combo. Is from a Hpi Flux I have. Is this chassis lipo friendly because that's the issue I'm having with the Hpi, hardcase lipos fit only by stretching the upper and lower decks slightly causing tweak. I don' really race but I enjoy setting up a "track' with dots in a vacant parking lot near me. ( the business closes at night leaving the parkin lot empty)

Jochim_18 01-29-2011 10:14 AM

You can get the aluminum lipo tray from YoDog right now he got quite a few available this will sit the battery lower and have enough space to not shim the top deck.

Evoracer 01-29-2011 10:27 AM

Can anyone give me some rough measurements for what height the battery can be and still fit the chassis without shimming ?? I'm using Zippy 4000 hard case packs. They're pretty low profile but these are hard packs with the humps on bottom. car isn't here yet but If I need to order a tray from YoDog I might as well do it now. Thanks

Pro10noob 01-29-2011 10:39 AM

The zippy flightmax hardcase 4000mah fit perfectly into the stock setup E4RS.
The humps fit nice into the slots of the stock battery tray.
If you want bigger lipo's, then you nee Yodays battery tray.
I have been running the zippy's last year without any problems.
The car was only i bit to light(just under 1300 grams :D:D ).

cheers Roy

Thanks Roy, I'm racing VTA so to meet minimum I have to add weight no matter what. I'll see where I'm at once I get car and gear all together.

I have a tough question for any of you. Currently there are a couple of good advertisements for E4 cars or goods in rctech. Especially the one for seller "Weezy". The other Is "cablecrawler" but I don't know if he has picks posted yet. I'm in the market for a second E4. If one of you experienced guys can take a look at the ad and tell me what you think of items and price...I'd appreciate it.

Here's the link to Weezy's ad: http://www.rctech.net/forum/r-c-item...ic-onroad.html

Pro10noob 01-29-2011 10:53 AM

Gimme the links and i will have a look at them.
I have a hopped up E4RS008.
A lot of K-factory and wolf parts on it and yes Top parts also.
This because i wanted a red car and now i am the only one in my country:D
I don't think you need all those parts in VTA but i will help you get a bit more weight and make the car even more bullit proof.
Only waiting till Yodog has his new damper spacer ready so i can order it and maybe the new chassis but don't know that for sure.
Still love my old 008 and not going to sell it ever as it got me hooked on TC racing again.

regards Roy

This is the link for the ad by "Weesy". Lots of stuff. Not so much interested because it's bling. Always like parts that are functional. Much of his stuff is just good spare parts. The cars include a Dave Ehrlich chassis that has quite a few scratches on bottom but still a usable car. Add the other cars in and the price doesn't seem to far from reality.

"Cablecrawler" doesn't have his pictures posted yet but he e-mailed them to me. 2 very nice E4FS cars. One with quite a few upgrades and 1 with minimal upgrades. Here's a link showing what the more expensive car has on it as it was purchased from Wolf Hobbies. (look at the cart on right of page)

Roy,

YoDog got some damper spacer available go ahead and PM him.

Pro10noob 01-29-2011 01:02 PM

Nice ad from Weesy but the pics are to small to see how the parts really are.

The other ad is for a new car(FS) with some of the hop up parts i also have(all from K-factory)
Both look a good deal tho.

Looking forward to it. This will probably be the last upgrade I will need for the JS.:lol: After your chassis upgrade there will be hardly anything JS about my E4.

I'm looking forward to it to. It'll be interesting to see how a JS fares v an RS, both sporting this chassis. I suspect the only significant difference would be weight, though the top decks might have an influence.

Evoracer 01-30-2011 10:40 AM

Did anyone race for Team Magic at the Snowbird's ???

Jochim_18 01-30-2011 06:18 PM

I don't think any well known driver is sponsored here in U.S at this time.

Evoracer 01-30-2011 06:24 PM

That appears to be the case.
My E4FS should be here tomorrow. Racing in 25.5 VTA.Outdoor asphalt.
Can you folks suggest what might be the first thing I should do to it ? And what parts I should seriously consider getting because they address problem areas ??

Jochim_18 01-30-2011 07:19 PM

Belts, steel front drive shaft... other than that it's a tank...

The TM steel universals ok ?? Been reading a bit about the belts. Are the K Factory belts still considered the way to go or what ?

Jochim_18 01-30-2011 10:03 PM

Yap TM Magic steel universal and just get TM wide belts. K-factory is a bit stiff it's hard to free the drivetrain.

Evoracer 01-31-2011 05:58 AM

Thanks again ! Car supposed to arrive today . C'mon mail lady.....hurry it up. Have to admit I'm excited. I've wanted to try the e4 for awhile after I bought a JS and never ran it. Just one of those times when I had to consider the cost of investing in yet another car since I already owned more than the average racer.

Has anyone heard anything from Wolf or TM about producing a E5 ??

Sorry if my enthusiasm irritates anyone. I'm just one of those people that really needs to dive into all aspects of the car from mechanical to understanding the company.

WEEZY 01-31-2011 07:06 AM

pm me for more pics. Both of my roller cars have the wolf hobbies front and rear hub carriers... And i have both aluminum and steel 2 piece axles just one of the bones broke.

Jochim_18 01-31-2011 07:45 AM

I emailed wolf few week ago from what he told me their is no new car at this time.

Pro10noob 01-31-2011 07:58 AM

Heard the same from my local hobby shop.
Not even rumors of a new car or parts.

regards Roy

Looking forward to hearing your on track report of the new plate. My hope is that it will make the car more consistent on carpet without needing to switch to the thick 3mm foam chassis.

My intention is that it will be a better all around chassis for either carpet or pavement. I should hope that it will only need to be 2-2.5mm for all conditions and with all the other flex tuning available on the E4 it should be more predictable when making such changes in chassis flex.

Jochim_18 01-31-2011 06:31 PM

What I noticed between the FS and RS chassis is the RS chassis flex too much when your steering is on full lock so you really have to dial down your DUAL rate to where you will not loose steering and take some of the flex out the chassis. The flex is cause by the chassis being 2.5mm thin and the chassis cut out on the battery tray but with the FS chassis which is 3mm thick you don't have this problem that is why FS chassis is more consistent over all from my experience driving both car.

With the new chassis design by Yodog I'm pretty sure we will not have this issue since the chassis has simetrical cut outs and we don't have to use the battery tray. Over all I think the car will be more predictable, you will have an even flex and more balance car.

So Yodog when will be the release of the new chassis I can't wait to try it out before the REEDY race this year.

Jochim_18 01-31-2011 06:39 PM

Yodog,

Are you planning to make pocket on where the bulkheads and suspension mounts sits Or no? if you do you might wanna go with 2.5mm thick chassis because the area on the chassis that will have pocket with 2.0mm it will be too thin and it might make those area prone to cracking on impact.

Yeah, I will put the pockets in. I just need to add them to the model. The preliminary model shown is not 100% complete. I still need to put the original chassis in our mill so that I can use the DRO to validate all of the hole positions. I used a caliper for the initial measurements but it's not a precise enough method.
I'm going to prototype the chassis in 2mm carbon because it's what I have on hand until I get some 2.5mm stock. I still need to design the top deck to go along with the chassis but I think we can start with the stock parts first.
I hope to have the test chassis cut in the next few weeks.

Need a test driver here in Holland:D:nod:;)
I be more then willing to try one out for you:D:D:D

You're always on my list, Roy.
For now, I just hope to get one or two cut just to try.
Once I get the 2.5mm stock in, I should have more to share. I just want everybody to be clear on what I'm doing here. I happen to be fortunate enough to have access to a 3D printer and machine shop and I am doing this work on the side. Sometimes I get more time in the shop and sometimes not so much. I really like the E4 and enjoy designing parts to make them better however, I'm not doing this as a business. The prices I quote are primarily to recoupe my cost for making the parts. Heck, maybe someone might take notice and think I might be a good candidate as a designer/R&D developer for an RC company.
If interested, you guys should take a look at some of my other work in the 1/8th electric on road threads. I've got a bunch of ideas and often find it difficult to find the time to realize them all. I really appreciate everybody's enthusiasm for what I am doing. All I ask is that everybody please be patient as I don't want to let you guys down.

Thanks for the support.:nod::nod::nod::nod:

buffalobill989 02-01-2011 06:20 PM

i am very glad that you still take the time and effort that you do to make this car even better. take all the time you need i will be here watching to see what all comes of this:D

Jochim_18 02-01-2011 06:44 PM

I'm fortunate to race with Yodog at our local track and I get to test all the prototypes parts his designing.:nod::nod:

+++ for Yodog:D:D
At the moment he is the only one who is doing some work for the TM E4
Keep it up Rick.
Your doing a hell of a good job.

Thank you guys,
I really appreciate your support!
I'm back to work today so let's see how much I can get done before Friday.:):)

YoDog 02-02-2011 10:55 AM

Let's not forget that Wolfe is still supporting the E4 with aftermarket parts that work as good if not better than the Kfactory parts at a much better price.:nod::nod::nod:

Pro10noob 02-02-2011 12:31 PM

Hey i am not forgetting Wolf as they have supplied me with a lot of beautifull red parts:D
Some of them are really rare(lucky me) and they work just great.
You on the other hand are making new experimental parts to get the car perform even better as it is doing already.
Perhaps your parts will go in to production for TM if they work as you want:sneaky::sneaky:

regards Roy

Hi!

I have a E4JS and the main chassi and rear chassi part broke in a quite small crash a while ago.
Now I´m thinking of upgrade my car and wonder if anyone know if I will be able to move everything from my E4JS and mount it on one of the carbonfiber chassi for E4, E4RS or E4FS?
Or must I buy allot of more parts to do that operation? If it´s possible at all.

Jochim_18 02-03-2011 11:06 AM

I think it's completly different but some of the parts are interchangeable.

Not worth the trouble. I've been there. If you want to upgrade just get the RS or FS complete. The parts on the main chassis are somewhat compatible but don't function the same if you change the chassis plate simply because the way the JS holds a battery in place vs. the RS or FS is completely different. You best bet is to just repair the damage for now and maybe consider upgrading to the Yodog chassis when that is availble because that will solve the battery compartment issues when transferring parts from your JS over.

I know how you broke. The rear chassis plate broke and when it did, the screws mounting onto the main chassis ripped out of the mounts on the main chassis taking out a piece of the main chassis with it. This is the problem with the multi-piece chassis design. Its a great idea if the main chassis was made of something durable like carbon fiber and aluminum with the weaker ABS pieces for the front and rear but with all the chassis piece made of ABS there is no strength in that design.

Hello guys,
a quick update on parts.
I'm almost finished with 10 aluminum rear tower spacers and they will be available on Monday. I now have several black ABS body supports ready to ship also. I will most likely only make these in plastic for awhile since they are very light and don't require much strength. Not to mention I can make them much faster in the 3D printer. I have a few battery trays left and may not make any more once the chassis are ready. I finished the chassis model last night and sourced the 2.5mm carbon plate. I need to find a shop that can cut the plate for me at a good price since our shop is not really set up for this type of material. Side braces are falling a little behind as they are more complicated to machine but I will get back to them soon.
Some of you guys are waiting on parts and I will be shipping all that I can on Monday.
Thanks for your patience.
