I have an DE E4. I'm not the original owner and don't have all of the paperwork. Can someone PM the stock setup?

Part II

The E4 is underpowered for the tight competition in the mod class, our Losi ESC and 4.5 Motor combo served us well and it's very much a situation that the E4 wants more power and Im not sure it won't struggle.

For me it's silly grub screw holding the C hub pins that really lets the default car down. Ive seen some nice gear at wolf's but for now it's a matter of finding more power and seeing what the transmission makes of it.

Fortunately we managed to find a front belt tensioner before this event and it saved us from a sure set of belt failures.

Ultimately the E4 gobbled up the Losi 4.5 and while its by no means a powerhouse, it's been very reliable. Anyone else run mod?

Purple on the front, pink on the rear and stock sway.. had a good event... http://www.youtube.com/therealblis?g.../0/G6QmNXZor2A

I'm having some issues with the front uprights and was wondering if someone could enlighten me. It seems that the top hole in the front upright keeps enlarging itself. The first set of uprights I had were the DE black aluminum. Next I put on a set of 6 degree plastic uprights. The DE had an enlarged hole for a bearing while the plastic ones did not. Both sets had enlarged holes after only a few runs. This creates a fair amount of slop. I see that Wolf Hobbies selling a silver aluminum set of uprights but those are $60 a set, that's expensive. Any help / suggestions in this matter would be great.

Jochim_18 10-13-2010 07:14 AM

Just get the stock 3 degree aluminum or the wolf hobbies aluminum C-hub It cost a lot but this will solve your problem and you will never purchase another C-hub they are pretty strong. I do recommend wolf hobbies they are beffier and truer.

Jochim_18 10-13-2010 07:30 AM

What everyone prefers to use dual or single steering bell crank?

You're referring to these?

I would get the wolf hobbies aluminum c-hubs they are cheaper.

Those are i believe the K-factory 3 degrees C-hubs.
You need to use these http://www.wolfhobbies.com/Wolf_Hobb..._Degree_2.html
They are almost half the price and with the ballbearings in them last a life time without problems.

Alright. I want to say that those were the ones that came on my DE E4, the same ones that enlarger the first time but, maybe not. I will give them a try.

Pro10noob 10-13-2010 09:46 AM

Did you have ballbearing in the c-hubs or where there brass bearings in them?.
I find it weird that you had enlarged holes where there should be a ball bearing.
I have both the Wolf Hobbies hubs and the K-Factory but didn't have any issiues with both of them.

Jochim_18 10-13-2010 09:52 AM

Those are the stock C-hubs but they only included on the original E4 the K-factory ones are black anodized.

Pro10noob 10-13-2010 10:07 AM

Erhmmmmmm the 3 degrees K-factory are silver colored and the 6 degrees K-factory are black anodized.
K-factory made the stock c-hubs for the original E4 i believe
Check pic these c-hubs are 3 degrees and from K-factory

The uprights that came on my DE E4 (I am not the original owner so I'm not 100% sure) were black aluminum and were 3 degrees. They did come with ball bearings in them (not bushings) and the right side was enlarged. I had thought it might have been wrecked before I got it but, when the same thing happened with the plastic uprights, it got me thinking.

Pro10noob 10-13-2010 10:19 AM

The plastic c-hubs do tend to wear a bit yeah but the alu c-hubs i have i never got any problems with.
Sold one of my E4FS with the Wolf hobbies 3 degrees c-hubs on them and the guy who is driving it is still happy with them.
No problems with wear or anything.

I had mine for 2 years it is still slap free.

What's is everyone using on their E4 dual or single steering bellcrank?

Pro10noob 10-13-2010 03:37 PM

I am using single because of less parts that can come loose, less slop and direct responce.

Hey, I'm a long time losi r driver that recently decided to try something new so I got a E4 DE edition. It was used and came with no tuning parts (springs, swaybars, etc.) It looks like the rear springs are associated green springs. Anyways, what all should I get for this car for tuning, as far as springs, caster blocks, swaybars... Also, it had no manual, is there roll center adjustment as far as moving the a arms up or down? Thanks for any help. BTW i run on asphault tracks, indoors and out. Any advice on what to order would be great.

Jochim_18 10-15-2010 07:25 PM

You can adjust the roll center, anti-dive, anti-squat by shimming the suspension blocks and camber links. Get the K-factory spring set, I recommend getting the PU belts, and use the rear belt on the front they are thicker, change the middle and side pulleys to the plactics ones it will save you a headache the aluminums ones tend to strip the belt pretty quickly especially if you are running mod.

Since you got the DE E4 you pretty much got all the hop-ups you need. But I recommend replacing the bearing either use metal shield bearing if you wanna go cheap or ceramic bearing. This will free up the car more.

bjames 10-16-2010 06:21 AM

Cool, thanks for your help. I cant wait to raise some eyebrows at the local track...All they run is TOP and Xray.

Jochim_18 10-16-2010 07:08 AM

contact yodog here in the forum you will need his battery tray to fit those big lipo packs without raising the top deck.

Thanks for the shout Kimo...

I'll be making more battery trays this week so If anyone wants in, PM me.

$55 shipped in the Continental US.
Outside will adjust for the difference.

For those of you who bought a tray from me, could you please provide an update on how they are working out for you. Any suggestions or feedback is always welcome.

Suggest a part? :tire::tire::tire:

Thanks

Jochim_18 10-18-2010 05:15 PM

1. Top deck for low traction track.
2. Aluminum dual steering bell crank.
3. Lipo chassis with no cut outs I'm finding the RS chassis is inconsistent with un-even flex. Probably that's why the original E4 chassis works better on asphalt the car handling is more predictable.

Are you racing this weekend Rick?

Jochim_18 10-18-2010 05:23 PM

The car handles really well and very easy to drive. I have run pretty much all the top major brand on the market but this car is not sensitive to different track surface. You can pretty much run the same setup with some small changes and your pretty much spot on.

I managed to strip a shock cap while rebuilding the shocks this evening. I took extra care to line the thread up but still managed to do it. This got me thinking; Would I be better off replacing the TM shocks with another brand (Tamiya) or get new shock caps?

I hope so...
I've been helping my girlfriends son do some work on his new home. Lots of painting and cleanup. The previous owners could barely change a lightbulb.

Jochim_18 10-21-2010 06:36 PM

Team Magic E4 user I e-mailed Exotek Racing to see if they can make a new chassis and top deck design for the E4 I feel like the current chassis/top deck is inconsistent especially on a low grip track. Car is awesome don't get me wrong but a little more tweaking will make this car a lot more better than any other chassis on the market. So make a shout out to exotek racing so we can make this happen.

Jochim_18 10-21-2010 06:39 PM

I tried to fit tamiya shocks but it was way too long and I couldn't get a proper ride height. Get the K-factory shocks if you want too upgrade. Or just rebuild your shocks I haven't had problem with mine.

You could use the Top Photon shocks as a replacement as the shock body is even a bit shorter then the TM shocks.
You need the lower spring retainer and the ballcup of the TM shock tho to use the TM springs.
Works like a charm:D

Hello

Some solutions:

1. replace the aluminium bulkheads by the plastic ones (E4JS)
2. don't use the second screw on the motor holder (only the front one on the chassis).
3. remove the 503150 part
4. don't screw the RF Hinge Pin Mount to the bulkhead, but place the screws from the inside, to just use them as guides.

;)

Pro10noob 10-22-2010 03:23 PM

If you mean my car yes:D:D
Those are the Wolf Hobbies upgrades.
I like a red car and saw the parts on the Wolf site in the discount.
I ordered them all and asked them also about the red bulkhead and they told me the had a set in stock so i ordered it also.
Sold the stockparts to some one that had a E4D to upgrade his car and with that made the upgrade for me almost for free:smile::lol:
I am real happy with the car as it is and even if it get's behind on the grid i will never sell it:cool:

cheers Roy

Hey Pro and E4 Friends...

It's time I bought my son a new shell and the last one we tried was a KFactory shell and according to Luke it really performed well. Wondering what experience you've all had with shells and what best suits an E4.

We'll also be looking for some more power this coming year and wonder what motor speedy combinations fit the E4 (Original) and what the effects of more ooompf are on the transmission and chassis.

cheers

h

PS: A vid from our state titles... He races with some of the best EP racers in the country, he's way off the pace but consistent and really enjoys racing in amongst the "big boys"

I got a E4 FS for really cheap I just modified the the top deck to give some flex will give it a try next race and see how it goes.

Pro10noob 10-24-2010 11:29 PM

What kind of mods are you planning to do to the top deck?

Jochim_18 10-31-2010 04:21 PM

I made a bigger cut outs at the rear of the top deck and shave a few Milimeter to make it thinner for more flex. I will run the car this weekend for 17.5 no boost class.

Capt'N_Slow 11-04-2010 04:44 AM

Have found that my camber links on the front or rear of the car tend to get pushed in due to a hard crash giving me 5deg instead of the normal 1.5deg of camber.

Are there stronger ball cups and thicker links that will prevent this from happening?

Also I'm looking for longer ball studs for mounting 2mm to 4mm of washers that will allow for having more then 2 threads going into the plastic that will fit the standard ball cups for this kit?
