Hey guys , been off from racing touring for almost 2 seasons.

I picked up a E4/fs with the front spool. we race on a technical high grip track. On Ashpalt. well after finding some problems with the car intially. Going to order the parts right away and get it ready for this summer. (missing a pulley guide arg) I was going to switch brand for the summer as part are hard to come by for the car.

We'll I decided to give the car another shot since i never really gave it a proper go.

My question is this. the car is pretty much stock but had to upgrade the rear CVD"s as broke one on the on the first and only outing

Now to the question at hand. what part and i mean all part you would suggest. to get this car ready for this summer and be competitive. to run both lipo and brushless. I'm going to be mainly running in 17.5 and maybe 13.5.

the more descriptive and indept the list the better. as to why each pc is needed.

the first thing i'm going to be doing is going to single bell crank.

If you like to send me the list via pm or on the main thread would be great.

Andrew

I suggest front steel universals, purple and pink springs, set of shims from www.wolfhobbies.com in 1 and 2 mm sizes, get the aluminum single bell crank (steering), 110 spur for more brushless gearing options and that's all I can think of now. I have all aluminum hubs and steering knuckles.

cyrrus 02-11-2010 08:52 PM

isaac

thanks

ummm really that all i really need. i was going to think much more would be needed. as the mrs gave the the okay to go nuts and upgrade everything i need. I was also going to run a set of TFR shocks but i guess i settle with those and get the purple pink TM springs I presume.

Isaac.. do the Alu hubs remove the slop?

Born2Run 02-12-2010 02:16 AM

I haven't got yet my TM RS'09 but i read here that you cannot fit all the BL motors without some dremel work on the belt tensioner. Why this?Because of the motors lenght or something else?Could someone help me please to get the picture?

Pro10noob 02-12-2010 08:30 AM

I bought the Wolfhobbies alloy upgrade set and have to say that a lot of slop is gone.http://www.wolfhobbies.com/product.c...7&product=8351
The only bit of slop i have is on the outside of the axle where the wheels go.
This is due to the 2 piece set of the outside of the axle.
At the moment i ordered the steel hubs from the E4JS and some clamb on wheel hexes to get rid of all the slop there..
I am also waiting on a set of red shocks so i can complete my E4 to a red racing monster:lol:.
If i have them fitted i will post some pics up as the car looks rather nice with all those red parts:D:D

cheers Roy

Yes they did for the most part although right now the left hub carrier has a "little" slop just because of wear. I haven't really broken anything except dog bones.

Yes because of the motor length. Novak Ballistic motors work without any modifications.

Cool. You will have to post some pics when you have it all done.

Pro10noob 02-12-2010 09:26 AM

Not only the lenght of the motor but also the shape.
The LRP X11 motors fit perfectly without the use of a dremel.
It is because of the backside shape of the motor.
If it is tapered it fits ok,if it is like the Tekin or GM motors with a 90 degrees backside, you have to dremel a bit on the side belt tensioner and the left bulkhead to get anough room to play with the gears.

Not sure about the older chassis and all that may be needed. I can't answer that but call up Wolf Hobbies (or email) and they will let you know.

E4 Original

To use this on an E4 original you may need longer steering turnbuckles.. we did.

Roy
Do you think i'll have some issue with this motor?

Isaac 02-12-2010 12:46 PM

You *may* not because of the slanted end.

Born2Run 02-12-2010 12:57 PM

Well,we'll see when i'll get the car. After all it's not longer than my GM or my Orion (actualy is 1 mm shorter)

Pro10noob 02-12-2010 02:35 PM

I would say try it if you have it lying arround.
From the looks of it you will have some room to play with the gears.
On one of my cars(yes i have more then 1 TM:lol: ) i used the dremel to cut some material on the side tensioner and and the left back bulkhead to give the GM motor some room.
If i use the LRP X11 motor i won't have to do that as it got the tapered back side like the motor in your picture.
If it isn't your motor but you know the brand,go to your local hobby store and take the car with you and try it.
That is the best way to be sure it will fit and you got enough room to sort out the gearing you want.

cheers Roy

Pro10noob your car looks great.

Isaac time for some new pics of your ride now.:D

Look since I can't run touring right now I need to get my fix from checking out others E4 cars.:D

Jochim_18 02-12-2010 05:46 PM

How do you guys get clearance using a big lipo packs. I got the original E4 and man you have to shim the upper deck at least 5mm or more to clear the batteries. I literally run it one time running mod I strip the front belt and off the shelf she goes it been like 1 1/2 year since last time I race it. I love the car probably the most stable car I have ever driven but with the big lipo pack we are using it just won't fit. Any advice or hop up I can get so I don't have shim the car like crazy just to fit a big lipo packs.

Isaac 02-12-2010 06:43 PM

I only used 2mm shims to fit batteries. Something else you may want to get buffalobill989 are some beefier body posts.

Born2Run 02-14-2010 12:40 PM

Could be used wider belts (like 3.5mm) on the RS?The new wider belts for the FS are 3.5mm?

And another one:Alloy pulleys are only 17T or there are also 18T?

YR4Dude 02-17-2010 11:53 AM

I had a good run with the E4JS last Saturday. Finally got the steering drift issue fixed. I kept thinking that it was steering slop that caused it and even after shimming everthing on the front end it still wasn't fixed. Finally I suspected that it was the KO low profile servo that wasn't centering properly. Swapped it for another KO servo and the problem was solved.

I ran Jaco Blue rubber premounts on the front and greens in the rear. After a days worth of racing at WCRC the blues were well worn. The greens were still fresh. This car really makes good traction. The fun part about it was that I gave my buddy a good run for the money with his XRay T2 009. I made sure to remind him that most everything on my car was plastic.

Right now the only thing keeping me from the top spot is the fact that I don't have a Tekin RS for 17.5. I was able to pick-up a used SPX to replace my extremely slow Novak GTB. Depite the most aggressive profile and the tallest gearing short of over temping, it still wasn't fast enough. The JS was a dream to drive in the infield but was no match once it hit the straights.

I think I might try 13.5 instead to see if there is less disparity with the have and have-nots of the Tekin RS. Hopefully the speed of the 13.5 will level the playing field more.

I just got 3mm washers in different thicknesses from Tamiya. I used the 1.5mm to raise the top plate in order to clear an IP3800.

It's the bumps that dont line up.. LAZER or ORION 3800's fit perfectly with the above deck middle mount.

Pro10noob 02-27-2010 10:09 AM

Try Zippy flightmax Lipo.
4000MAH and fit perfectly and cost about 30 dollars

cheers Roy
