the whole point of those motors - they are not supposed to be opened for servicing...most your supposed to be able to do is clean the comm a little bit
if you really had to open it - you'd need to pry the tabs open, but if you did that good luck getting them to close again

I am very happy with the way the new steering works and the ball diff is a gem. I initially set the ball diff not tight enough and lost drive out of the corners.
After some discussion with others I tightened the ball diff and my car was so much better. I wish that I had adjusted the diff before the final, as the car was much quicker and had better drive into and out of the corners.
I must say that it is way better than the old TAO3 ball diff. The best part is you can undo the bottom hinge screw that holds the c hub and lower arm together, pivot out of the way and adjust the diff.
The only deviation I made was to use the Tamiya 3mm carbide diff balls.

What are those 2 bars in the 4th picture to the right of the battery holder? Does that act like a heat sink? Does it really work? I find my motors (we run silver cans) get pretty warm.

Those are the DF-03 Heat Sink Bars, they aid a little more in heat dissapation and will only work with the M-05 Aluminum Motor Plate.

They do aid with the heat transfer. I also use a external motor heatsink, this is more for equal weight ditribution on the car. They are supposed to be fitted in over the chassis, but I installed opposite , for weight plus they are out in the open.
They maybe more cosmetic, but anything to assist with getting rid of heat.

any one using the 3Racing speed gear set ??
i fitte mine last night and the car is soo slow to accelarate and really sluggish , like there is something binding ???

sidecarphil1, are you using the Tamiya pinions? I think the 3racing needs 48pitch pinions to mesh properly.

WRONG .. YOu still use the tamiya pinions.
However, unfortunately the 3 Racing speed gear set is made wrong and the pinion to spur gear mesh is far too tight so it binds. I had emailed them to tell them and they seem to be aware of the problem. The original reply was to "use oil" which was hilarious. After several emails they understood what I had said.
This was part of the reply "For our product of fast gear set(#M05-02), actually, our product it have a little bit tight than original tamiya kit gear set, for working, we test more time that it is no any problem for normal working, we think it may be cause a little bit noise or meshing problem when you are use different pinion gear, we will try our best to modify the parts in future."

After doing some secret mini testing in the heat of the day, I can honestly say that the motor mount with the DF-03 heat bars and the external heatsink do transfer heat away from the motor. Not sure what the temps were, but the parts were hot to touch after running for 10-12 minutes using the 13T Hobbywing BL systems.
Both cars were dialled and the new diff is up to the task.

i will have a word with my importer and see what he says about it !!!
they are SOOO tight when i rev it and let go the wheels STOP !! straight away !!
AND i did add oil !!

I was wondering if there is a part number replacement for the ball connector on the steering knuckle for the M03?

The best replacement is to use a 2mm diameter droop screw, a spacer, 2 or 3mm and a ball stud that screws onto the droop screw. Alternatively use the same spacer and ball stud nut and use a long screw. These are way stronger than the brass ball stud provided in the kit.
