Best source for me has been eBay from the various tenants there.
Unless you have a friend in Japan who is willing to buy locally and bring them to you (like my buddy). :p |

just because they are discontinued, does not mean they are not CURRENT.
they are still available for purchase at plenty of shops all over the world. tamiya discontinues all kinds of stuff right after they make it. If you're not going to accept my interpretation of the rules, try asking the guys who run the TCS. They usually ban the usage of discontinued bodies (but this can vary between individual TCS events - larger events are usually stricter). |
adding my 2cents ...I think if it states "discontinued" on the Tamiya website then its considered "no longer current". ..that is how our club interprets the rule and I am sure many others do. ...but again just my input and just how our club does it.

It's totally out of order if the original Mini Cooper isn't allowed.

Rover is accurate. The Mini was built by the Rover Group from 1986 to 2000. Before that it was built by British Leyland and BMC. It was marketed by Austin, Innocenti, Leyland, Morris, Riley, Wolseley and Rover.
I'd like to see one of the rebodied versions De Tomaso designed and Innocenti built. Those were cool little lunchboxes. https://c1.staticflickr.com/7/6094/6...40b98137_b.jpg |

For the time being Mini Cooper is done. I think Tamiya needs to remark this class and bring back and retool some vintage bodies.
I would like to see a light weight Abarth 500 without the dummy engine. |
The Mini was also built in Spain by Authi and by Arica in Chile.
An all fiberglass Mini, the Mini Cord was built in Venezuela. |

Below is a Bugeye at the Brickyard last year. They have been holding a vintage race for several years at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and it was a great chance to see some cool cars. I was there on a practice day and they had open access to the area where the cars were being setup/worked on.
