Hey Folks!
How's it going? I've just built an M05 for myself and my gf (she built hers actually!) and looking for some setup advice for 17.5T on a medium sized outdoor tarmac track.

What sort of ride height and shock setup is usually run on the M05s outdoors? Both the cars have the 54000 M chassis shiocks and front and rear carbon shock towers.

Cheers!!

If you used the white pistons that came with the 54000, I would first replace those with the black pistons that came with the package. Start with either the 2 or 3 hole and clear Tamiya damper oil. These cars do not need much damping.

Thanks Sakadachi
What's the reasoning being the black over the white pistons? Also what weight would the tamiya damper oil be?

Had my M05 on the track today. It was traction rolling like crazy. Gave up on it in the end :(

The white piston holes are very small so even with the softest damper oil the damping is a bit too stiff for a m-chassis. The black pistons have bigger holes. I'm not exactly sure what Tamiya oil weights are vs other brands. The clear is the standard oil that comes with the V2 kit.

Post up which tires you are using and setup. I'm sure others will also want to chime in to see what they recommend for preventing traction rolling.

Yes really need more info on the setup before we can comment about the traction rolling
Also what type of surface are you running on ???

Please post a few pictures of your car too......

Thanks folks!!

Here's some more info. Pictures will follow :)

Medium sized outdoor asphalt track (Approx 100ft back straight). Med traction ambient temp 35C
Tamiya Swift Body (225mm WB)

Front:
2.5 camber
1mm on steering links (toe)
4.2mm ride height
1.6mm droop under chassis
Hard (Blue) springs (not sure of damping)
Inside hole on shock tower
3Racing gear diff with putty

Rear:
2.5 camber
2 deg toe (alum hubs + suspension block)
4.8mm ride height
5+mm droop (Way too much droop!)
Soft (Red) springs (again not sure of damping)
Most inside hole on shock tower

Tires:
Team Powers 36X premounts
Sauced 100% front and rear with Mighty Gripper V3 yellow 30 mins

17.5T 24T pinion with 3Racing fast gears

I would first try just saucing the inner tread 7-8mm on the front (maybe no sauce for starts) and rears. You want to setup the car to have some level of understeer first, then dial-in to rid that.

Hey all. Anyone who also runs a touring car, can you tell me if the M Chassis wheels will fit on the TC chassis.

I need to run smaller diameter M Chassis rims on a touring car (to get the length and wheelbase) for a special project I'm building. Brand of TC doesn't matter, so keen to hear if the smaller rims fit on anything.

Thanks

An FF02 is 95% shared with the M03. I'd start looking there.

. They'll fit the FF02 for sure and the TL01 as that also uses the same hubs as the M03 but I've not successfully fitted m size wheels to much else.

For years I ran blue front and yellow rear until reading a mention on here of red front, yellow rear. I believe the V2 manual also recommends the same too but for now let's just say I'm not going back ;)

When it roles try to see if you can which end the role is occurring from. Looking at your set up I can imagine the rear squatting down mid corner with your blue and reds the way they are; essentially causing the car to dig in and go over.

Also perhaps lower the rear ride height to 4mm. I tend to have the rear slightly lower than the rear or at worse, level.

Thanks Shawnh!

I have been thinking about it past few days and definitely need a stiffer rear end  That's an interesting point about the V2 manual. The 54000 damper manual suggests blue front and yellow rear. This is the first FF car I've owned so learning along the way.

I'll rebuild the shocks - go light weight on the damping (#300) and switch springs to red front and yellow rear to begin with. Lower rear ride height and need to take out a lot of droop from the rear too I think. Car was rolling on entry (not even under braking) so I'm guessing the front end was digging in as the rear end lifted and because of the amount of rear droop, allowed the front to dig ALOT and barrel rolling away it goes.

I'll see if I can hit a track on the weekend and try it out :)

Wagwan, if you got CA Glue, try gluing the first set of treads on the front wheels lightly
as well as you might want to CA the sidewalls as well
You might have some play in the tires that could be causing the traction rolling as well.

Just remember to try changing one thing at a time, just incase whatever you do makes it
worse, you can take a step backwards!
Keep us informed of your progress!!!

Thanks guys. The chassis can be FWD, so that's a good starting point. Cheers
