I've had some great times with my Black SD, hope you also do. I ran it with the Novak BL too, geared between 6.5(too hot) to 7.0(too slow)

Quick question....
What's the best way to remove (as much as possible) slop from CGM/SSG steering while still using standard ball ends?
It appears as if most of it is coming from the bell crank assembly.

gritty diffs
Guys,
anybody has a "Trick" for having diffs that last more than 10 runs before becoming all crappy? I'm tired of rebuilding mine all the time... I heard about using Tam diff plates, any truth to this?
Thanks,
Paul

Lonestar,
10 runs or 10 race days? Mine seem to stay pretty smooth for a really long time, at least 4 race days, sometimes more when i run stock only. Only thing that i do when i rebuild them is clean everything really well and i use one of my old long diff halves, put the diff rings on it one at a time and sand them lightly on some 600 grit sandpaper with water until the wear line from the diff balls is gone. Re-assemble them and they feel good as new.
Blake
P.S. i dont know if it makes any difference but i use MIP diff lube and associated black grease on the thrust assembly.

If you're not using carbide balls then you'll have to rebuild them every week or two. After I put the carbide balls in mine I go a month or so before I resand the rings, I've been using the same balls in my diff for almost the last year.

Blake, Matt,
thanks for the feedback. No, I really mean 10 batts! I don't use carbide balls indeed (just normal ones) but I'd hope they'd still last a little longer! I use AE's black grease for thrust bearings and AE Stealth lube for the main balls, and in 10 runs or so my diffs are shot. And you can't reverse the diff rings, which would help I think... Anyways... guess I'll have to dump more cash in more hopups...
Q: do Xray's diffshave standard carbide balls? because they sure last a looooooong time with no rebuild...
Thanks for the tips, guys!

Sorry if this has been asked before, but where would I be able to find those washers that you use when you want to put a countersunk screw over a non-countersunk hole? Thinking about picking some up for the top deck of my SSG.

I got hold of some ceramic diff balls and they are so smooth and they seem to have lasted ages too. A bit expensive but they are still round and the plates are in good condition.

Tony,
I dont think that yokomo has a 28 lb spring, I believe HPI has some though which im planning on trying next time out at the carpet track. They dont really have a 25lb either, the grey is closer to 26 so an associated 25 spring will work fine. Here is a chart for ya..

I have been running 25's in the back and 30's in the front with tossolini's modified roll center setup and the car works great but i think the 28 lb spring will really help the minor off power push im having.
Smcpot,
I think i got some of those washers in an associated aluminum screw kit fyi.

25lb is GT4 green, and its either GT4 red or brown for the 28lb spring.

My chart shows the GT4 Brown is 32.99 lb and the GT4 green is 23.20 lb. A good choice would be GT4 grey 26.55lb and the silver 23.87lb or Associated yellow 31.07 and purple 25.47.

I think I'm about ready to get myself some of those ceramic diff balls.
I just ordered some Acer ceramic bearings, anybody using those? I was looking at Boca ceramics, but those suckers are $195.00 for the SD!! WHOA!!
I was thinking, what do you guys think of ceramic thrust balls?
