I have the Arrowmax and Xray diff. The Xray diff is just easier to maintain and smoother.

With that said, anyone want to buy my Arrowmax diff? (upgraded to v2 shaft) :D

What’s the best gear ratio?

What’s the best gear ratio for 25.5 Trinity X-Factor on an outdoor large track?
Track is SteelCity RC speedway in CA

I’m currently running 2.32 (86/37) with my 21.5 Motiv MC2 and it’s great. 8 min qualify/Mains and it was still good to go another 8 minutes easy. This is for my set up for Road Runners in Camarillo.

thank you for the help!

Awesomatix F1 Gear Diff! What you need:

Awesomatix A12 gear diff: A12-GD $127 (Awesomatix USA)
Schumacher Icon Clamping Hub 1/12 to F1 adapter: U8104 $10.49 (Discount RC Store)
Spur Gear

That's it!

A little more involved to assemble than the Xray unit but I like the design and it is a way better than the Arrowmax design. It is ball bearing supported on both ends of the diffs. Some people have reported the Xray gear diff can bind up under higher cornering forces due to the unsupported attachment design. The steel shaft is hollow throughout with a very thin 0.5mm wall thickness. Will have to see how durable it is on a heavier, rubber tire F1. The shaft on the Awesomatix is shorter too, may not fit all F1 applications, but should fit most. The diff side length is 39.4mm which is very comparable to most ball/gear diffs at around 40mm. Overall the diff is very smooth, I have built it with 10K as recommended in the manual for medium traction. I also ground down the spur gear nubs shorter since I was using thinner spurs and didn't want to use the O-ring. I'm a little skeptical of the nut (experienced these going loose on the A700 sometimes) but hopefully a dab of threadlock holds it.

With the Schumacher Icon adapter (5 grams itself), it is about 30 grams, so it is the lightest pan car gear diff. I think oil capacity is a bit less than the Xray but definitely more than the Arrowmax. Compared to: Xray gear diff at 40g, Arrowmax V2 at 34.5g, and Xray gear diff with titanium shaft at 36g. I think the Xray gear diff with carbon shaft was 32-33g, I forget, but I kept breaking the carbon shafts. :(

Will be testing for leakage and durability next. If Oleg makes an F1 specific version with a different hub and slightly longer shaft, it'd be perfect.

Very cool Dan. I'll make sure Oleg sees this...

Dan, an idea of the longer spur gear nubs is to keep the spur nut against loosening. A sufficient friction between nubs and the nut prevents unscrewing in case of the spur gear doesn't touch the nut or touches closer to the axle with less pressure. When the spur gear presses on the nut (at shorter nubs) the small alternating movements of the spur under throttle/braking load can unscrew the nut.
So the nubs that are shorter than the spur gear thickness looks as a not good change for me.

Thanks for the background Oleg! Makes sense. Unfortunately I cannot reverse what I did. :)

I will try it out and if it is an issue, I'll order the back housing.

Dan 10-26-2021 05:57 PM

First run, light weeping of oil on the hub side, not too bad. A few packs thru it and the spur nut has not loosened. (knock on wood).

I think 7k is more ideal for "medium" setting versus 10k for black carpet. Will retest...

Make it and we'll buy it in a heartbeat

I really hope you release an F1

Good morning Dan,

I just ordered the gear diff and plan on using it in my Fenix 3.3, What oil would you recommend for smooth medium to high asphalt traction

Dan 02-15-2022 07:55 AM

I don't have much experience with gear diffs on asphalt, but I would start off with 1k diff oil.

Dan 02-15-2022 08:31 AM

Update on Awesomatix gear diff: A little leaking, not terribly so. Durability seems good so far. I've had a few bad crashes that would have previously bent or broken the carbon axle option for the X-ray gear diff. Tempted to order another diff but hopefully Oleg pulls thru and makes an F1 specific version.

been talking w/ Oleg about F1 and 1/10th Oval versions. we will see.

Dan, can you get a measurement from the back of the threaded part, I'm assuming that's were the spur attaches, to the end of the axle? I want to compare it to the x-ray diff version. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks
