I just picked up my second B6D - can't wait to get it on the track! I was trying to decide between the 22 4.0 and the B6D for my second stock buggy, but I just love the way my first B6D drives so much. I was running the two back-to-back for the past week, and while I was having a very difficult time making a decision based on objective criteria (lap times, cornering, rear grip, etc.), one thing DID stand out when I looked back: When I wasn't driving my B6D, I wished I was. Lap times were nearly identical between both cars (slightly lower with my B6D, but so close that it's probably not even worth mentioning).
This next one I'm building will be a no-holds-barred build: titanium everything, MIP pucks, cut gears, ceramic bearings... the works. It will be interesting to compare the new build to my old one, which is pretty much bone stock except for the laydown transmission and the 25g brass C block. |
Will be looking forward to what you find out. 22 4.0's rule at my track. I think I am the only one left running a B6.

The new aluminum hubs look sweet. Can't wait to run them !

How many people run the 5.0 mil rear hexes? How big of an effect do they really have?

I run on whats typically medium grip indoor tracks where super soft compounds are needed. I use the offset rear hubs spacers and 67mm bones and I use the middle width rear pivot. I use the 5mm rear hex with this. By itself, just adjusting hex width to a smaller size will add a little rear grip but take away a tiny bit of stability. |
I just installed the schelle hubs and 67 mm drive shafts.

Do you use any grease or diff lube in the b6 transmission gears?

https://muc-off.com/products/bio-dry-lube Leaves a nice coating once it's been ran for a while. Great stuff and it'll last forever as not a lot is needed. |
I like this stuff. Easy to find at a local store.
http://www.super-lube.com/synthetic-multipurpose-grease-ezp-49.html Best part is if you put a little extra on the gears when you assemble the gearbox, the excess will fly outward and form a nice seal. I run outdoors, and my gearboxes always stay pretty clean inside. |
what is the difference between using thin oil vs thicker grase? i read some people using shock oil for that purpose

Ok, here's one. anybody strip one of the 3x12 screws that go down into the top plate? Bag 2-4 Step 5 in B6 manual. Picked up a used one and I noticed the stripped screw. Not sure the dremel tip is going to get down in there.

check the extra hardware bag if you can find one into (if you have it)

I have screws, i'm asking basically how to get the stripped one out. Dremel is easy when you have access to the screw. thinking i may end up stripping the thread in the top plate and front bulk head.

I've reached the point in my B6d build where I'm installing the slipper. I've got a choice. I could install the stock one, or I could transfer the VTS slipper from my B4.
The only issue is the VTS is super glazed. I've cleaned up the pads easily enough, but the plates have an incredibly polished mirrror finish on them. Can I just go over this with some 600 grit to fix it up? |
