Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

I have dropped the Losi prebuilt gear diff in my 3.0 Sr and have abused the daylight S out of it with no issues.

Anyone running dirt and install the 4.0 rear camber block on their 3.0? Did the new inner hole make enough difference to warrant the $20 price tag?

I just put the new 4.0 rear block on my 3.0 too. What camber link location should I be using on the rear hub, running on dirt with the standup tranny? Right now I think I have it in the E hole. I haven't driven it yet since I made the upgrade.

I'd start with 1-B (back row middle).

Most likely the +3 hubs, if you run the std hubs with the raised diff I believe the driveshafts come out. If you upgrade the to 4.0 hubs once you have the metal tops you can get the composite parts very cheaply.

What you guys think of the 3.0 in 17.5 compared to the sr 4.0? I have all of the sr stuff for my 3.0 and it’s laydown with the xfactory conversion putting the shocks on the front of the rear arm. But one issue I’m having is I installed the the sr diff and idler gear and top shaft but the tranny seems really tight?

Looking at setup sheets from different drivers, I see they use Yokomo springs, but there is 3 different types. Which one are they using. Ys, Yas, or ultra performance?

In order to use a 70 tooth or lower spur gear on the car, i would have to go back to 22 1.0 style slipper pads. Will they work with the slipper plates that come with the car?
