Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

I still run a 3.0 as my wet car and it does OK. In low grip the 3.0 is still a great car and there not a high amount of difference between the 4.0 in stand up format compared to the 3.0. It's more that over the last few years tracks have moved more to astro or carpet and therefore you need a different type of car.
Spares are still available for the 3.0 or you can upgrade lots of things from the 4.0 (lay down gearbox etc), you need to get out and get races on it 👍👍

Nothing wrong with a 3.0 even if you run in high grip just get the laydown for it.

Well 3 tracks closed in N. Illinois within a year, now we have a New track in Morris Ill opening up and Im going to use it more again . They will have a dirt offroad and a dirt oval so the 3.0 might become a coupe or super stock . Might have to get a 5.0 for the Offroad

So, complete noob when it comes to off road. Thinking of getting into it. Was offered a 3.0 for 100 bucks. looks mint. Is a 3.0 worth getting now? Abit worried if i break something so parts support is a question i have as well.

Curious if a 5.0 body will fit a 3.0? Or is that a really stupid question lol, sorry.

I don’t think the 5.0 body will fit but I could be wrong. Should be tons of 3.0 parts still around.

Just picked up a 3.0 roller gonna set it up for the 11 year old. Any thing to look out for or Have to grab or most have. Has all plastic parts for now. As far as I can tell it need the rear 12mm wheel hexe. I see the stan and the .75 mm one. Which is to preferred hex for the rear

Hey guys I just got one of these for my 9yo son to learn with, it’s being sent to me so I haven’t had the chance to inspect it closely yet.

I just have a few quick questions? Is there a list of what parts are interchangeable from the 4.0/5.0?

Mainly after a new body, arms, shock towers ect. Anything to look out for in terms of breakages? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

The 4.0 is almost identical when it is in stand up format so most of the parts will fit. The 5.0 had the front redesigned so quite a few parts changed and don't fit, but wishbones and shocks will be OK (but there are several different shock shaft sizes so best to check first)
