Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

Right, except in Losi's case, their car (3.0) was available in Australia a full 2 weeks before USA release.

For stock racing what is the bare minimum upgrades needed for the 3.0. Searched on the site didn't see much. Assuming I'm not looking for super light weight. Just the necessities (like the how the B5m needed C, D, and ballstud mount). thx much. thinking about getting my son one to try as well

Low means the ballstud is the 1mm shorter one. Standard is the same as the ones used on the front camber block, etc. Low is used for bumpsteer and ackerman if you wanted to.

The 22 3.0 doesn't NEED any parts except an aluminum servo horn. The only other parts to get are titanium screw/ball studs/shock mounts/turnbuckles, aluminum nuts, Direct Drive System, Light weight or ultra light weight body are all nice things to have, especially for spec racing - but none required.

Thx! Was just checking. Don't need anything fancy. Buying for my son, who's 8. So, not looking to shave tenths of lap times, but want to be able to race it every now and then myself as well. Seen a lot of people tearing it up with the 3.0 lately and was hoping I didn't need a bunch of go fast parts. Looking forward to trying one out. My first RC was a JRX2

Get the Serpent SRX-2 or SRX-4 gear diff. Fits perfectly with a couple shims. It is twice the price, but easily more than twice the quality of the Losi gear diff. Trust me. I would love for TLR to make a quality gear diff (and I would switch to it because I like keeping things factory), but there is no comparison between the Losi and the Serpent right now.

Anyone know if the MIP super diff parts (rings and outdrives) are compatible with the TLR parts? I'm thinking of getting the bi-metal outdrives for my TLR 22T 2.0, but don't really want the rest of the super diff kit (rings, balls).

I wonder how long it will be until TLR has a turf or high grip version of the 22 3.0 I'm interested in getting a buggy to race turf and the B6 is really appealing since everything is in 1 box. I just really prefer TLR and end up not being happy when trying other brands.
