I guess il give the hudy graphite grease on the stock idler gear a try although Im going to run mod motor on it . Il try the longer screws you showed what did the graphite braces come from ?

I seen the pic of a diffrent brand of idler gear il definitely look at that and a direct drop in it says .

The carbon fiber came from a chassis I ordered from Exotek. They are selling random ones for scrap. The one I got happened to have a portion that was milled down to 2mm in a couple sections.

I made the braces from a scraped chassis that had a section milled down to 2mm. Now I have to find some 2.5x6 flat head screws. I’ll probably put a bit of JB weld into the tiny voids where the screws are placed to make sure they have maximum bite into the transmission case.

I'll admit that I'm a complete newb when it comes to tuning so maybe I'm missing something. Setup is stock according to the instructions. Seemed like the problem got worse when I switched from a 175 gram battery to a 235 gram battery (both in the longitudinal orientation). Also, I didn't have any big crashes but still managed to break a rear rod end. Hoping I can get this thing to run as well as my RB5 .
One thing I changed to better control the steering was use a shorter servo arm for your servo. I use a 16mm instead of the included 18mm. It was too twitchy with the stock servo arm.

This is what I have so far. I’m still tracking down the 3x35 flat head screw. I need to get a new countersink bit, but you get the idea. I also got 3x10mm screws to mount the transmission to the chassis because the standard 3x8s are known to strip easily.

All these mods look interesting, but I can't break the stock case with exotek idler and top gear.

Have you looked through the D216 Facebook page I linked above? There were several trannys with your setup that had stripped diff gears. I know it has a lot to do with the surface you drive on and driving style. I would really like to keep the factory idler gear.

Got to the track yesterday. And started looking at different set ups. I noticed on the steering bar there is a + and - side with dots. What effect does flipping the bar from one to the other do? And I see on the set up sheet there is box pointing to the front dots and the rear dots. What are the dots? Thanks for any help.

Can I get someone to measure the rear hinge pin for this car. I bent one on my 413 and they are not available anywhere in the US. I'm trying to see if the 216 part will work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What's the purpose of adding the carbon fiber plates below the outdrives? Rigidity to the gear box?

Honestly it’s probably more trouble than it’s worth. I did a lot of reading about people stripping idler and diff gears. Many believed that it was because the diff assembly was able to flex the transmission housing under high load situations (mostly carpet racers). This is just something I am trying out.

Ok gotcha. It looked like a process to get done. Hard to say if you can measure any level of improvement.

Too bad this is a weak spot in the d216. I guess it was more oriented for dirt though. Carpet is pretty stressful on any car and this transmission just wasn't prepared for such a high bite surface.

So far with the aluminum idler gear in place, I haven't had any wear on my diff gear. I did use some white lithium grease to reduce friction on the diff gear but it's hard to say if that is even helping. Figured it can't hurt.
