I know I’ll get it dialed in and it will be a great car I just wish there was more support from HB. For those that have replaced the idler gear with the aluminum version have you had issues with the diff gear? Is the aluminum top gear a noticeable improvement in acceleration? Thanks.

Right now in my area HB is the car to have but that's 1/8th as everyone is getting a ride with them but those guys also run 1/10th som some will be getting the 413 and 216 as well. Might see more info. but either way its a nice car and super easy to work on. Honestly I ran on med high bite clay and car was good and easy to drive. I only dumped mine because are distributor discontinued them only to find out GP was in trouble and HB moved to other sources to sell there cars or I would still be racing mine. Standup tranny or not I did great with the car. I think just a laydown tranny in the car would be a easy upgrade for HB to keep the car competitive and a ball diff.

There’s places to get parts for it A-main, Absolute Hobbyz , Beach rc , EBay sure others . I’m glad this buggy came with a gear diff not a fan of ball diffs been there i run on high bite clay and med traction mixed clay/dirt .

The guys i race with run the gear diff with 1000k or a little higher and they looked fine on the track .

I went ahead and got the Exotek aluminum top gear and a replacement Idler. What springs and ride hight are you guys running? I’ve seen some reference to AE and Kyosho springs.

Im running blue springs up front and yellow rears, stock shock oil. I run 21mm ride height f/r for medium bite clay. I also run the 1.4 sway bar.

Ok thanks, sway bar huh? I never really considered using it for off road, but the tracks now have a bit more grip than the ones I drove years ago.

Yeah sway bar for now. We run indoor clay here in MN during the winter months. I'll probably run without the sway bar once spring comes for outdoor dirt tracks.

I’m one step closer to hitting the track with my D216. I just got my Maclan ESC and 17.5 motor installed. A battery is on the way. I can’t wait to start testing.

After reading a ton of posts on the D216 Facebook page I’ve taken the rear of my car apart to do a few mods to hopefully eliminate the gear problems. One person on FB recommended putting a 3x35mm screw in the right front suspension mount to replace the std. 3x20 screw. This will make the area in front of the diff bearings more solid. After looking at the trans case very closely I am going to attempt to make two side braces placed just under the out drives to bind the front of the transmission case to the rear portion that holds the diff in place. I’ll be using 2mm thick carbon fiber. Lastly I’ll put slightly longer 3x10 screws in the rear right and left of the diff cover. HB’s designers made an error with the transmission case design which leads to the diff moving away from the idler gear under high torque loads.

Hum with the alum idler gear wouldn’t that eliminate the strip issue ? That’s a good idea though with the carbon plates if i can’t do them il try the longer screws like you said .

I’m thinking of getting the chassis brace stiffer also to help with it along the alum idler gear .

From what I’ve seen the aluminum idler gear just ends up stripping the diff gear. There are several examples on the FB page.

One guy on the FB page suggests using a gear from a Serpent car. He says it’s a direct drop in that offers more durability.
