Use the v3.1

I don't think you need a hundred and 20 amps that's kind of overkill

I was thinking if I had 120a that it would run Cooler and not over heat, just an idea I had

Last question, as far as batteries are concerned, what ones do you recommend? As far as mah, brand and discharge rate?
I'm a stock racer so my advice won't help you. I do find in mod that brand and discharge rate don't seem to matter nearly as much since the motor takes care of it I started using Protek battery packs from AMain since they're reasonably priced. I hear good things about SMC and GensAce though.

A lot of the quotes by Billy were actually made on the FB page. That's the kind of info that we get there and not here.

I run stock and run the HW Jusstock esc on a 17.5. It never gets above 100.

The v3.1 have fans on them. Great escs.

I run the sctpro which is a 120 amp esc for my Pro4 SCT to give you a reference. Plus you dont want that extra weight.

You reference using the 3.1 - that is actually a 120A ESC.

I would suggest a HW Stock Spec ESC. You can get the full blown v3.1, but really for the 8.5T motor the stock spec will run that just fine. The biggest differences are the aluminum bottom case, and the heat sink on the stock spec is not quite as nice as the XERUN v3.1. However, I run the Stock Spec in my MM with the HW 8.5, with no fan, and it runs great all day.

How much runtime should I get running a 8.5t + 18 pinion with a 4400mAh shorty pack?
I ran my MM last Sunday in a mid-sized track and got about 5 minutes.

It ran great with the RCShox pistons. I need to do some slight adjustments (It pushes a little bit) and the steering rack screws got loose, but I was indeed impressed on how it drives. Other than these and minor issues I need to fix, I really like this buggy.

If your only getting 5 minutes of runtime something is seriously wrong. I can go about 15 minutes with mine with a similar setup. Check and make sure you cutoff isn't set to high

Dang 15- 25 mins!
Anyone using a Tekin RSX that can share your settings?

My cutoff is set as 2S (I guess I will change it to 3.5v)

Depending on how sensitive the ESC is, if you run after a fresh charge, it calculates the voltage then (at power up) when it's at it's peak. Then as you run the ESC looks at the lowest voltage/valleys.

The HW ESCs are pretty sensitive so for those we turn it off, or turn it down.

only thing is you cant tweak the settings like a 3.1 but you're right about the 120 amp thing.

Actually, now that you agreed with my I have to correct myself. The stock spec 3.1 is only 100A (I thought it was 120A), but both work good in the MM application.. and suggest maximum motor for both is a 5.5T.

Both have the same programmable items actually.

The ESC in your signature doesn't have all the settings.

I need to get more sleep before replying lol.

Buy yea my Juststock esc only has a few settings you can modify. Basically for "stock" (use that term loosely) racing.
