im not sure about the diff problem, mine are perfect. There is a problem with the rear diff case right where the screw is for the chassis brace. Saw two of them get busted. A buddy of mine suggested using a longer screw to hold the brace in.

I just finished pulling the front and rear diffs out to check for damage. The shims are destroyed in both and I see the same wear in the slots the cross pins ride in that I saw in the center diff. Looks like I will building all three new ones with the buggy parts.

I will let you all know what I find in mine after I tear them down this week. After the first three packs I tore them down and changed the fluids and they were in great shape. Now that I have had a full day of racing through it we will see what I find if anything.:batman::spidey:
OOps forgot. The first pick is right after I took it apart and the second is after it is all cleaned and ready for new fluid and reinstall. |
Hello Everyone,
It appears that we have an issue with the shims in the ET48 kits, when they were produced they weren't hardened enough. The shim could break down and cause a diff to lock up. If you have had this issue please contact us via email at [email protected] with pictures. For those of you that have not had diff failures yet but are seeing premature wear on the shims or just purchased your kit please contact us as well. We will make sure you get the proper TKR5145 diff shims. At this time they are in transit to us and should have them very soon. They will be the replacement shims for the ET48. We apologize for the problems/delays this may have caused you but we assure you we will get you back on the track ASAP. Thanks for your support! -Thomas Tekno RC Customer Support. |

Wow this diff problem seems to be more serious than I thought .... A fair amount of people seem to be having problems with them. If the EBs diff was really solid why didn't they just stick with that? It seems like they went the wrong way with these new shims etc ... How come they didn't experience any problems during testing if all of you have had these in just a couple of battery packs .... I'm going to wait and see what happens about this diff problem and what tekno has to say for this before I pull the trigger on this kit. I hope it's not a problem that every et user will experience. Fingers crossed! Anxiously waiting further news on this.

I think the issue w/ diff's blowing is going to get worse if you don't watch those spacers.. Below are some pics.. if this gets bad enough (mine are 30minutes combined of run time old) it will shred and get into your diff and will cause a catastrophic failure. My rear diff was inspected and it did not have the wear yet, but I'm going to replace them all. Tekno should really look into this asap imo to save issues w/ diff's and gears (lol I'm slow w/ my post since they did post to email them with issues) ;P. Here is my center.. I did swap oils since the build and this is after just some practice and 3 quals and 1 main. I will note center outdrives are in nice shape, but I did re-inspect the front and rear and those outdrives are showing signs of quick wear already, again only some practice and 3 quals and 1 main. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps9655477f.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps0beb76be.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psecec008e.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps28b7a6e9.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psf0b69b0d.jpg |

Just took out my center diff and found no wear at all. It still looks new. I will try and attach some pics but I have been having trouble with that. I will get back with front and rear diff results.

As teknos response is very impressive and promising, what will happen with customers who will be buying these kits in the near future? Advised to buy a bunch of the right shims along with the kit?

The next batch of kits will have TKR5145 shims in them from the beginning. The first batch sold out in a week so those should all be with customers now. If you know of anyone who has an ET48 and isn't on RCTech or Facebook, please let them know to contact us for the proper shims ASAP.

Are these shims the source of the premature outdrive wear as well?

Not on mine as I used the regular thin shims from the beginning (I have the excessive outdrive wear). BTW, tekno I sent the asked for pics on my outdrives to your email.
