Ran my first club race with the ET today and the results were more than satisfactory. Qualified 4th for the A and finished 3rd. I was leading for three or four laps and had a pretty good lead when the nerves showed up and I could not stop shaking. From the time I walked in to Indy RC World in Garland, TX. to the time I walked out people were eyeing and asking me questions. I think that I sold a few drivers on it. It performed fantastic, just wish the driver would have. I heard a rumor today that the Tekno team drivers are going to be racing in the Ice Breakers race in the middle of March. Is there any truth to this? I sure hope so. Its a great race and with the remodeled facility its now even better. I think that next weekend there will be a new sheriff in town if I can stay calm. :batman::spidey:

I heard the Tekno guys are coming too. Drake is supposed to be there too with a couple other pros listed as maybe.

Finally got to get some timed track time with the ET48. The club threw me in with the Novice class, but track time is track time. It was a pretty small turnout so I didn't really have much time for tuning, but I can already tell this truggy has some serious potential.

As for durability... wow! I put this thing trough some serious hell and it kept on ticking. Cars were dropping all night long and the track was so severe I had to double zip tie my RX8s into my kits.

Ya I saw where Adam Drake and others were coming to. I hope the Tekno team shows. I was running 10/15/7 in the diffs with 600/500 in the shocks all on Sweeps Square Armour blues. Had alot of bite and the truck turned on a dime. Alot of fun.:batman::spidey:

Did you clean it out after a few runs?
I saw on mine that the nickel plating on the shims wore off and seriously contamited my oil.
So this was with maybe 20 minutes on the truck and i just redid the whole diffs.

Yes. I had cleaned them out after the first two packs. Mine were not as heavily contaminated as the diffs in my EB48 were after break in. I'm ordering rebuild parts today and will try it again. If these small diffs won't hold up any better than this I'll be switching brands soon.

I swapped mine as well and saw the same contamination after very little use. I plan on taking them all apart over the next week and doing new fluids and inspecting. I also saw a guy at Rama blow a center et48 diff up as well.. not sure on the details, but it was spent for sure. My buddy had the well documented rear end clip failure on one of his heats at rama (eb48.2), but mine has held out so far.. we purchased around the same time (different LHS) though so I 1/2 expect mine to snap off at some point too (disappointing) wish I knew if I had one of the bad batches. Overall though with only one hard weekend on my new et48 and eb48.2 no major wear issues are visible, but again I need to tear down my diff's for verification. I hope my kit doesn't have the wear issues on the outdrives I saw on a few posts, was that an isolated batch as well?

On another note, drywall mesh and shoegoo all through the front of the body held up like a champ, w/ this completed I don't see major issues happening unless someone crashes a lot then maybe still an issue.

I've been luck so far to avoid breaking any rear bulkheads. Once I got all the oil and trash out of my diff case I also noticed the cross pins had eaten away at the slots in the diff case. I don't know if that was caused by the damaged gears, or if the pins twisted far enough in the case to cause the binding and breakage. I'm really surprised to see these issues popping up in the truggy diffs as the diffs in my EB48 have been bomb proof.

Don't the et and eb use the same exact centre diffs???

UK.hardcore 02-17-2014 08:15 AM

no, they use a different shim behind the sun gear, and its nickel plated, so all the nickel wears off and everything is really nasty when you open the diff.

i found a suitable replacement: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...2x05mm-Shim-10

I'm building up an EB diff from spare parts to put in my ET. Want to see if it will hold up better. On mine, it wasn't just the nickel coming off. The shims were deformed badly like the pin was being forced through it.

I will let you all know what I find in mine after I tear them down this week. After the first three packs I tore them down and changed the fluids and they were in great shape. Now that I have had a full day of racing through it we will see what I find if anything.:batman::spidey:

wow man that thing is THIN!!

mamdot91 02-17-2014 12:17 PM

Wow this diff problem seems to be more serious than I thought .... A fair amount of people seem to be having problems with them. If the EBs diff was really solid why didn't they just stick with that? It seems like they went the wrong way with these new shims etc ... How come they didn't experience any problems during testing if all of you have had these in just a couple of battery packs .... I'm going to wait and see what happens about this diff problem and what tekno has to say for this before I pull the trigger on this kit. I hope it's not a problem that every et user will experience. Fingers crossed! Anxiously waiting further news on this.
