Ive been searching for common gearing for my LRP x20 17.5 stock
Many of the recommendations are in the 69/34 range. When i gear that tall it feels so bogged. Much better low end from 75/30-32.

Now my question: Others that gear their 17.5's very tall, are they just sacrificing a ton of low end power for the speed on the straight aways? OR are their motors that much different than my LRP?

I was thinking maybe I need to gear lower than others because the x20 comes stock with 27.5 degrees timing.

I'll have to look again but I thinking did 75/33 on mine with a D3.5. Runs great and fantastic acceleration. It has been so long since I've looked st what pinion that I don't remember.

Do you know what motor can timing you use with that gearing?

im at 32/72 with 20 degrees of timming plus what ever is built into the can on my d3.5.

when i run 17.5 blinky with a d3.5 and also killshot with can timing all the way up and 69 36 comes off about 135 has good punch and tons of speed

When installing the taper pistons in the shocks, do you want the tapered part pointing up or down?

Down. Taper down. Taper up will give it less pack and slower rebound, opposite of what you *should* want.

regarding this 17.5 subject, I ran my vulcan with lots of timing and it only came off at 140 or so after almost every run but I still fried the sensor board in the motor somehow. I feel if you have an expensive 17.5 motor, dont go overboard with the motor timing. Gear it for more power instead of getting that power through timing. just my advice.

ah! see here is what im talking about! I dont see how I could ever have good punch with 69/36. My motor must not like being geared tall?
Also it was my understanding that the more can-timing you add, the shorter you should gear it. anyone concur?

what i do when I run stock is come up with the lowest gearing I feel comfortable running with FACTORY timing, no added timing. Gearing something like 69/32-34 and run it like that for about 7-8 minutes. See if the battery and/or motor stay consistent the whole run then pull it off and temp it. If its running cool and not very hot (anything under like 130), add timing slowly and run it again for the same time and look for the same things and temp it again. Keep doing that until your motor is around 160 after the run and thats the gearing and timing you run. well at least thats what I do.

I messed up last time and didnt do this ^ and went with a gearing (75/30) that had a ton of low end but no top end so I put the timing through the roof to achieve the top end I wanted and it fried the motor so dont do that...lol

Is there a specific brand most are using? I need to switch mine out..
Thanks

Thanks guys!

Chief- The one I am going to be us in is the AE ones. Avid makes pretty good quality pistons too.
