Has anyone tried a ShuurSpeed 4300 or 4800 yet? If so, what do you think?

I know someone that tried the 4800 and didn't like it. Liked the pro4 and even more so the HW 4700.

Sounds like the pro4HD will be hitting the stores soon if your not concerned with roar rules that should be the hot ticket. Sounds like a couple weeks away.

Made it to the track today for a day of practice. The surface was back to normal, hard packed covered with a ton of dust and fairly rough.

The progressive springs worked okay on the jumps. The nose down attitude and lawn darting was gone, but the truck felt kind of bouncy and still bottomed out hard on the bigger jumps. I tried a variety of different springs and different combinations of springs. All the springs were heavier than the stock springs. I did not increase the oil weights from the AE 37.5 front 32.5 rear I started with. All the different combinations were ok, but none felt like they were quite right.

I think the next step is to change the pistons. I bought a cheap set of AE 6 hole 1.3 pistons to try on my next trip to the track. These should give me more pack on the shocks and I think that's what I need to take care of the bottoming issues.

The good part of the day was the steering. Even on the very slick surface the truck had a ton of steering. One place it was really noticeable was on the sweeper at the end of the straight. The track has a long back straight that ends in a 180 left hand sweeper. For the first time ever I was able to come into the sweeper hard and when the truck started to let loose I just poured the power to it and the Tekno just straightened up and held a good line all the way around. Apart from a few good drivers with 1/8 scale buggys I haven't seen anyone take that sweeper at the speed the Tekno did. This truck is way better than I am. I get the feeling that it's just waiting for me to improve my driving so it can really strut it's stuff.

I'm going to keep messing around with the shocks and springs until I get them where I want them and I think I'm going to be one very happy camper.

This motor is buttery smooth with plenty of rip. I really like it. I came from a hobbywing 4700 and it was a huge difference in smoothness. I'm using an rx8 with current limiter cranked way up and the 4700 HW was just way to powerful down low. The powerband of the Schur Speed is much more refined and made the car easy to drive. I'm very happy that I went from the hobbywing 4700 to the Schur speed 4800.

All due respect sir, but more motor doesn't mean better lap times. I found the extreme power of the HW to be difficult to put down consistent lap times because it would break traction so easily. Honestly, I think that is one of the main problems with 4x4 SC. Drivers have way more motor than they need because they think that drag racing down the straight is the winning ticket. Dial it back a bit and compare your consistency.

Yeah, I think that's why he didn't like it... not enough punch off the bottom. We both run on a pretty high grip indoor track so that's what we are both looking for. I actually don't run any current limit and timing is at 80 on my rx8, I prefer my finger to be the power limiter and be uncorked for the 180° turn that leads into the triple or whatever section like that that's built into the layout for the month.

My last motor was the TS411 4600 and I think that is a pretty smooth motor. It was fast and I liked it. But I like the rip off the bottom in the HW and my times confirmed it.

Everyone's different and contrasting opinions are a good thing as BLbound may be looking for a smooth easy to control motor or he may be looking for a ripping bottom end. So our conflicting opinions may be a benefit to him.

Stay spunky

So I ran my tekno on Lonstar rc track this weekend and truck is fantastic. The track is a large 1/8th size with some tall jumps and is a little low on traction. Coming from a 2wd slash running a 3800 this trucks handling is ridiculous took me a while to adjust to what the truck can do. Only issue was it stripped the stock servo horn big surprise. As far as nose diving the truck flew very smoothly. I only put 3 of the rubber stops on the rear shock shafts and I'm wondering if maybe that would help some people with the lawn darting.

Thank you both for the info! Actually I'm looking for traits of both motors, smooth when I need it to be & punchy for the rip.

If anyone would like to split a set of aluminum screws with me (silver color) and a few titanium M3 screws (all from fastener express) please let me know. Will be about $50 I'm guessing. Will have a better price once I actually add it all up. FYI, some screws will have to be cut down a bit, in order to keep the price down (doesn't make sense to pay a bunch more for a ton of spares when you can grind down a longer screw).

Dragula's Tekno is Unleashed!

The Cat is out of the bag now! I am going to unleash my new Tekno on the racers at KRZ raceway this comming weekend....

I didn't get it put togather in time to make this past Saturday's race as I just got the truck on Friday evening. But it will be out this week!

My cat was helping as I put it togather Friday night...More pics to come. The truck is awesome. You can tell there was some real thinking involved in designing it. Some very subtle differences from other kits. I don't normally enjoy putting a kit togather, but I am glad its not a pre-assembled kit. Very nice to see some of the awesome engineering that went into it, and the tolerances.

I did re-work some 12mm wheel hexes to give my wheels just a little more clearance...More pics of the completed build later today. Might even race it tomorrow for club night...Can't wait.

Wired and ready to go.....

Stole the body off my Carbon Fiber Hyper10....Seems to fit
