I haven't noticed any issues on my 16 XB4 gears when I did a rebuild about 2wks ago.

3 cars at my track a 17 and two 18's are having ring and pinion gear problems. They have worn to the point of unusable on the 17 and one of the 18's. my 18 with only a dozen packs through it is starting to be worn.

That’s because they’re cast and not machined. Much cheaper to make. Don’t understand the reasoning but.... run the plastic gears. They actually wear better and are cheaper to replace

I was going to say... I don't think we have this ring and pinion gear issue at our track (turf). But the primary reason for that is because most of us run the 13.5 class and just about all run the composite gears.

If you look at he ring gear, on the outer edge of the gears tooth there is a burr on the outside from the casting process I believe. I'm pretty sure if you remove the burr the pinion/input gear will last much longer.

I think you want to take the time to add a chamfer the edge of the gear profile.

Has anyone sent info or emailed Xray or RC America asking them about issues or bring to their attention.

Just picked up an 18. Any inputs on how to resolve the diff gear issue (running Mod so need the metal gear)? How are we supposed to remove the burr?

A jewler file set would probably work best.

Or you could run the plastic ring and pinion gear. I haven't heard of any one having issues with them in mod or stock...

anybody tried moving the rear shocks at the back of the rear arms for 2017 xb4 use in low to medium dirt tracks? Is it better running the shocks in front?

Thanks for the input! I will try sand them down first. If the issue persist I will just run the plastic.

The graphite/composite pinion and ring gears work great in mod. If your not on super high bite and using a center gear diff they last and last and last. Grease them good. Light and ninja silent are the composite drive and ring gears.

I was curious about trying the Composite Ring and Pinion and run on high bite carpet and high bite clay with Center Diff.

I know for a fact that the composites are great in 13.5T wheeler on high bite astro/carpet... no issues whatsoever with the diff, slipper or a slipper delete.
