What is the reason for running long shank pinions vs regular pinions? I understand the traction drive and all that but why longer pninions?

Well, the idea was to be able to swap back and forth between the Traktion drive and the long shank. After seeing how much run out I was getting with both I decided to stick with regular length pinions.

If you run the short pinion do you still have to run the metal spur?

Me, I was just planning to reuse some long shank pinions to save on buying some regular ones lol.

No, nylon spur is fine for normal pinion.

The stock platic spur is great with a regular (short) pinion. I have about 3 months (racing every weekend) on the original plastic spur and it still looks brand new.

That makes sense. I didn't see it being worth the hassle for any other reason.

yeah, looking at it though, the long shank is just hanging on to the end of the motor shaft, I think I will feel more comfortable with the regular pinion in this case. For my previous V4 converted D8, seemed like more of the pinion was on the shaft.

No, but I chipped a couple spurs from dirt/rocks getting into the mesh. I switched to the steel spur and haven't had a problem since. The steel spur with a short pinion isn't much louder than a nylon gear IMHO.

I got my eb48 assembled, but winter only allows me to look at it currently ;(

I'm wondering:

Are any more carbon fiber parts going to be made for it?

When will a Jconcepts body be available?

i ran the hell out of mine yesterday, what a blast. i find the body to be excellent as almost no dirt gets past it, making clean-up time a whole lot better

You might wanna ask that in the RX8 thread http://www.rctech.net/forum/electric...sc-thread.html as this is the TEKNOEB48 thread not the TekinRX8 thread. One company has nothing to do with the other .....
