You know what. That's exactly what it is. The slipper is heating up so much that the top shaft transfers that heat to the idler. I had the same issue on a rustler when running a 7700 before the metal gear were available for the truck.

Questions?? Newbie Question on RTR Gear Diff

Hi, I have a question on how to tune a gear diff. It seems like only one wheel on my truck will hook up. I had it at an outdoor very loose track and on the straight the truck would go sideways to the right and the rear end would spin out on most turns. Should I go heavy diff oil or pack with grease? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have mine filled with 5000wt diff oil. Also, be sure the slipper is set properly and that you're not geared too low. The stock 18/87 is too low. I run a 20/84 on a tight indoor track and temp at 154 after 10 minutes.

So I'm wondering if I should change out my gearing currently I'm at 18/78 don't notice high temps but it "feels" the same with a 4900kv vs a 3300kv I'm refering to the rc10t4 in my sig.

Odd, they shouldn't feel the same.

Well I got to test out the T4.1 FT.

I gotta say it is fun..
I ended up using a 1410 3800 motor. I hate it.

Used it for 2 days... IT came out last night. lol

truck seems to handle well with the stock springs, ended up installing a gear diff with 5k oil.

I got a set of the Avid front truck springs. ---Yes Jeff S. I got them at the hobby shop... there ran out of rear truck springs and going to be installing a 10.5 .. the truck class here is all a mod class. no spec motor as of yet

I'll give the oil and the gearing a shot. Thanks for the reply.

That could be possible but naaaa i dont think thats it either it doesnt get that hot at the trans im sure of that. Ive run another 5-6 packs through it and i still hear a clicking i have only heard just b4 that idler stripped out, so far its holding up and i even tried extra hard to get it to strip fully today but still a no go,, I did rip the tires off the rims again tho lol,,, i used my friend "jet" Glue and well i'll just say its CRAP! Ive got some Zap Ca so hopefully it will do better.
Someone asked what i used for lube in the trans, ive tried it dry and it wore the gear quicker but then again that is also when i finally saw that the one bearing was shot, this last time i just used a dab of Associated black grease on the top shaft gear which after time spread to the other gears as well im sure but i used very very little, next time i go through the trans i'll use NONE like is reccomended.

Hey guys what pinions should I keep handy for my truck? I just got the truck and it came with no pinions. What should I be looking for in pinion size running a 9.5 turn brushless motor on small to medium technical tracks?

I changed the front bumper on my T4.1 Brushless to an RPM after breaking an A-Arm. Before I could even mount it, 2 of the 4 screws were stripped. Has anyone else stripped these? Is there a fix, other than replacing the piece?

I run 87/18 with a 7.5 on a small track. I would start at 87/19 or 20.

9.5 something like 87/20 should be good for a smaller track.

you can cover pretty much any gear for a 6.5-10.5 with an 87 and 84 spur and a 18,20, 22 pinions
