Sensored. LRP SXX TC Spec V1 is what I'm using right now. If I can ever get my Orca MKII TC Spec speedo back it will eventually go back in the truck. Motor and speedo both performed really well, speedo temp was only about 110. Ambient temps here are still mid 80's during the day, so that's all good. Gearing would have been really good on the tighter track we run. But, this track has a long front straight and a double into a table top that I just didn't have enough guts to clear consistently. Not to mention, when the 2nd place car was close early I had to take the preferred line away in the straight. Losi with a 4,000kv Pro 4 motor, and he would pull me 10 to 15 feet on the straight. Had to make sure he was on my outside coming into the corner at the end LOL.
Without seeing your track it sounds like you are spending a decent amount of time in the upper rpm range of that 6.5 which is probably where most of your heat is coming from. The safe way to go would be to keep gearing up a tooth at a time until you are coming off between 160 and 170 or you have the power you are looking for. Having said that, if I had a 6.5 sc4x it would probably be geared 16 or 17/62 in my truck. |

I used to run a 5.5 and 4.5 sc4x before the pro4's came out and they usually came off the track just under 170 and were geared as high as 16/62 and 14/62 respectively depending on the track.

Get a motor fan and never have to worry about motor temps again lol.

Just got home and looked at my notes. Speedo temps were actually under 100 deg. Krio, one more question. Which motor would you recommend, 4.5 or 5.5 SC4X? Most here running the Pro4 are running 4,000 kv, and that seems to be about right for that motor on our tracks. With the exception of one, tracks here are built for 1/8. Generally run 6.5 in 4wd buggy, 7.5 on tighter track, can handle those motors just fine. If the 4.5 SC4X is controllable I'd probably go that way, but like to hear your opinion. If it's as ballistic as the 4,600kv Pro4, probably not. Ran one once on a small track, it was a handful. Thanks.

Its not the motor that makes you fast, its your experience and abbilities. I beat a teekin 4600kv in a lousey with me sc10 4x4 with my lrp x12 8.5 in it.
Slow is fast. If you have alot of power and arent consistent you are better off with a slower motor and be consistent. |
I dont feel like i am getting all the power out of my tekin sc4x 5.5 gearing is 15/62. Running a LRP sxx v2 TC spec speedo. I want more tourqe but think it is my slipper. Will be buying MTK's clutch basket in a couple weeks. I have a fan on the motor so heat isnt a promblem. What do you guys suggest.

I agree. I have a 4.5 in mine as well. To me its way to much power unless traction is very high. Thats the reason I struggled with mine so bad this weekend. I couldnt control it. Its to much power and the truck is to light weight. I mean this truck is basically the same speed as my 1/8 nitro buggy and its half the weight. I think Im gonna try a 5.5 motor and cut back the throttle.

for the guys with the clutchbaskets, what did you do for dust covers?

However, if I were to do it again, I would ca some sand paper to the outer slipper hub, bolt the cover on and run the truck on the street for a couple minutes, then just take the sand paper off. This will create the needed space. Hope this helps you out. |

BLbound, rest assured that the 4000kv has all the power you will ever need. You can gear down for a small technical track or gear up for a big 1/8 track. i can literaly gear up to 45mph-ish and still be running cool enough to ru 10min mains;)

ok so it's not like it needs lotsa new clearance. cool. thanks man.
its on my list of things to do. oddly i haven't had slipper problems but I heard it makes a big difference. |
