woohoo, as of tonight, I officially have my entire sc 4x4 completed. thanks to mantis and some of the helpful guys here on rctech she's up and running. I'm running a rx8 with a pro4 4600kv motor, hitech 7950 servo, team orion 2s 6500mah 90c battery (two gen ace 5000 40cs). truck has been pinned and is ready to get going. waiting for my last order from towerhobbies which has all my oils, pinion gear which is a 13t, sway bars, several other goodies, i'm planning on making my debut race this weekend, hopefully it doesn't end in total disaster, lol, it's been about ten years since i've raced, yikes! feels good to have this thing completed

So under this theology, if I may: Every Sway bar, Chassis stiffener, optional spring, etc is a bandaid? ( I understand you have not attacked all of these ) Every thing iv'e heard you go on about being a bandaid can and is used on every single vehicle 10th scale, 8th scale, 5th scale, true scale. I get the idea from you that something has to be divinity-Perfect for it not to need a "bandaid".

hey all
any one had issues with there ESC coming loose from the tray it happened to me and made a mess on my viper. i think the tray was flexing to much but i can't be sure this has happen 3 times now with the last time killing the viper good and proper

LOL!! Show us some pics if you can please! I've been thinking that there's probably somebody out there that could make a carbon fiber belt tunnel...but I'd think they'd ask an arm and a leg for it...but it would be HELLA COOL!

The chassis brace is something we shouldn't need to install because Associated should have gotten the materials and/or design right in the first place. If you disagree, feel free to let ThunderbirdJunkie know.

Swaybars? ThunderbirdJunkie simply stated that most people use them as a band-aid for a not-quite-there setup. People were prematurely adding them and stating an improvement - which is to be expected - but most of these were box-stock trucks with mostly box-stock setups, which leads people to develop their setup with swaybars, which leads to trucks not being set up as well as they could be, thus continuing a vicious cycle of band-aiding.
Swaybars have their place, but not until the setup is getting close. Hell, that might be what ThunderbirdJunkie's truck was missing...but he won't know until he gets another one because he's still got NIP swaybars in his metric pitbox.
If you don't agree, that's fine...but ThunderbirdJunkie has not used the term "Band-aid" for much, and he hasn't said it often, either. Some people simply decide to get defensive because somebody else thinks outside of the box and doesn't want to follow simply because following is the cool thing to do; ThunderbirdJunkie never put his saddle packs down the center, and his truck was getting close to dialed. He sold it because he was tired of the lack of quality in the currently available parts, and as has happened in the past, the Factory Team will make that better. Why do you think they used the carbon in the first place? Because the normal plastic SUCKED.
Dunno how long you've been around, but ThunderbirdJunkie has watched the same exact trend with Associated of end-user development with first-run kits since 1996. If you'd like to argue these facts, why don't you talk to the long-time team drivers about the B4 and B2 and their developmental setup issues? AE has never had a good setup on ANYTHING out of the box aside from the FT SC10, and even that sucks compared to some of the RTRs.

Saddle packs mounted to the rear, better plastics and other materials, and higher inner ballstud mounting pieces will make this truck the world-beater it should be.
The fact that you remembered something ThunderbirdJunkie said MONTHS ago must have struck a chord, because you're clinging to it like a starving puppy to its mother's teat. That means there must be truth to it.

I have done the pin mod, and after driving the truck a few times I'm finding it a lot more consistent with take off and acceleration, I have the stock clutch setup, until reading all the info on here I never thought about the lack of power from the front end, but did notice it wanting to spin sideways under gas and braking even with a lot less expo in the brakes, it now brakes great, and pulls on the gas great, I have saddles up front, carbon brace etc and love the truck, I only race, and the truck is getting better and better.
T-BirdJunkie, you gave up and sold your truck, when you get a new one go ruin that thread and leave this one to the guys putting in the work to make this a great race truck.
Keep up the great work guys, I'll let you know if any trans parts break.

Umm...only swaybars has ThunderbirdJunkie mentioned as being band-aids.
The chassis brace is something we shouldn't need to install because Associated should have gotten the materials and/or design right in the first place. If you disagree, feel free to let ThunderbirdJunkie know.

A chassis brace required for soft plastic is the LEAST of my concerns being an employee of this hobby with what I see recalled and stopped before shipment. I understand that it shouldn't be needed. But flex is good in certain situations. I just don't see that as a bandaid when it's a choice on how the chassis will react. If that's how you think it should have been to begin with, that's an opinion. Not a bandaid. And I am honestly: in full agreement with the fella who says to look at your Chassis screws because I have NEVER thrown a belt, cannot get my tunnel to bend, and my belt is almost at max tension and ready for a new belt.

There are several occasions (AE maybe more than others) where a design is sent out not up to par with let's say a "traxxas" out of the box. And by that, all I mean is "It. works." - nothing more. Right now: Losi is holding back the 5iveT because of a issue and others are voting to just ship it and let the customer decide to fix it or not. Happens every day. I get bulletins at work stating a mess of stuff released.

He feels the proper development was not given to this truck in order to rush an unfinished product to market.
Again...ThunderbirdJunkie has a ton of snazzy option parts sitting in his parts box awaiting the FT version.
And the one post in retort was brought up quite a while after ThunderbirdJunkie had last posted in this thread anything about "Band-Aids"...things that resonate are often brought up in jest, but with larger subconscious reasons.

I'm a long time Lurker and I've held T-bird's opinion highly for quite some time. (the ******* third person Garbage aside.) I respect his knowledge and experience with this or any other truck he's had his hands on, just like Craig, and some of you other fellas.
I just have a problem with the labels. The guy knows what he's talking about. It's the "T-bird is out of the box and will tell you so, but T-bird won't look back inside said box" jive that I get, that bothers me. That makes me square!
Either way. T-bird made a valid point on his opinion of the "bandaid" term and even if I still don't agree to the full extent. I accept that said opinion.

Friday, it's build time! Building RC's are nearly more fun than driving them to me, so I'm looking forward to this. If there was money in building Kits, tuning them with hopups and selling them... I'd be in career heaven.
