go with the 32p, the 48 strips QUICK

I ran 48p with my 1410 and never stripped a spur. My slipper isn't locked down crazy tight and I run on dirt, not clay. 32p will be more bullet proof, but noisier.

I have a box full of spares that I've never gotten in to. These things are pretty darn bullet proof. I've replaced the clicker because the nut backed off through use and sheared the tips of the clicker teeth off. Accelerated fine, but would click under hard braking fully tightened down. I had a shock come apart, but that was my fault for not loctite'ing the piston screw. I broke a caster block but only because I was going flat out down the straight and some idiot decided to cut across the track to get to pit lane mid-race and I T-Boned him. All in all, the thing has been amazingly bulletproof.

That may change once the Tekin Pro4 4600 4 pole gets here from tower though :sneaky:

ok guys help me out here im thinking i need a new motor. I what less top end speed. currently im running scx4 5.5t geared 12/62 and its way to fast for the small track i run 10/13 sec lap times..lots of turning and hitting small jumps so i need some punch, thinking also of getting mac clutch basket,,
so should i go with a 540 motor what turn ? or
go with smaller pinion i have a 11t but its still fast.
my transmitter is adjusted also epa set to 88% on forward throttle and i still never hold full throttle more then a sec on a straight
thinking d3 duo 7.5 or 8.5 and if i dont like it i can always run it in my dex410

Same here. But I do run on clay. Very tight track, the time you spend more with the throttle in a fixed position is... 0.25 seconds? Maybe less.

Just opened the gearbox and this thing still has the brand new bling bling :)

so whats faster 5.5t 550 can or 7.5t 540 can 8.5 out of stock how about 9.5
same track in my 4x4 buggy 1/10 i run a 13.5 and its perfect so im looking for that feel in sc4x4

Then your gear mesh wasn't correct I'm usig the 3800 cc sct and 21/93 48p and have about 60 laps maybe more and my clutch and spur are in great shape I check then after every race or practice day.

Then I would say you had the wrong mesh, too loose. In high powered mod touring car where the traction is quite a bit higher they can get away with 64p gears. Yes, lighter cars but they do take quite a pounding when they crash.
I've been running 48p in mine since I got it and it's been perfect.

+1 mine was with a 540 too. perfect gear mesh. all 4 spurs lol

I love my 8.5 and my buddy is flyin with a 9.5 but we are using an RSPRO that boosts it.
with an RX8im not sure how the 540 will react. it also all depends on your track size. where do you race?

In reviewing the chassis setup posts here I started to wonder how temperature comes into play when it comes to shock oil. Here in Phoenix it's pretty common to run in 100+ (many nights over 110). I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the heat and what kind of weights they run.

For example would an 80 degree setup of 35/30 f/r need something like 40/35 or even higher for 100+ temps? Obviously an overly simplified scenario in this case.

Perhaps temps do not have much of an impact on the oil...I really don't know.

Cool Thanks guys, I do plan on sticking with 540 motors so maybe I will try 48 pitch 1st. Since I have all the pinions already.

I have a couple different motor options to try :lol: Hopefully I do not have to take the 550 plunge, most tracks here I will run on are indoor and a tighter layout.


Do you guys carry extra belts with you at the track ? I will order up a clicker assembly and maybe the basics.
