It sure seems like a "band aid' though, dont think team Ae or any of there team drivers use this mod or need it..Don't know, maybe im wrong, im just not feeling having to add the extra hardware on the slipper assembly when the team ae guys have tested and enginereed this truck accordingly...Would this be a necessary mod due too a design flaw??That's what this mod implies??Ill do it if it's an issue i run into..Have not put it through tough race day paces really just yet..Time will tell if I need to get this mod I guess?

help me understand this..I'm having an extremely hard time grasping this. I already ordered one to play with, but I would like a detailed clarification. More slipper pads should equal less slippage equals more stress on the drivetrain, so wouldnt this be the same as nearly locking down the slipper? Top fuel dragsters use multiple clutch discs to handle the added stress of large horsepower motors. Does this system allow more tunability of the slipper? Does this system help the front to rear power bias; does it help in anyway with the truck wanting to come around under power? Help!! I really dont way to hear theory, give me facts based on people who have already used this device. thanks in advance.

I have not had ny slipper problems once I switched to the Hight torque pads, and i hit the track twice a week, and race every other weekend.
On another note, has anyone tried out the new LRP 550 motors, i just traded my 1410 and tenshcok motor for one, hopefully if has enough balls. I noticed it is rated for roughly 100 less wats than the novak and tekin? |
Check out how many of the top 10 IFMAR drivers are using LRP motors..... it's a lot....
LRP is known for smooth power delivery....so seeing 100 less watts makes sense to me....they don't have quite the same tire destroying low end torque...but have the same top end, and you will spend less time spinning tires and more time actually accellerating with an LRP. |

http://www.competitionplus.com/drag-...ing-the-clutch The object of the clutch bucket is to add friction material so the adjustment is less sensitive. Or, you can slip it more and not have it rook the friction material. Plus make it more consistant, as the heat will cause it to slip more as the run goes on than what you initally set it. |
I ordered the clutch basket today too. 2 packs at the track yesterday, HD pad outside with a vented hub, and mid pack it starts getting the slips and the slipper temp starts climbing. Running a 1410 geared 20/93 behind a MMP. The motor comes off cooler than the slipper.
I also have some trackstar O-rings to put in tonight. My track happened to put in a very bumpy rhythm section, which my 4x doesn't like. 35/30 with swaybars made for bouncing and kicking... I suspect the bars are hurting me thru this section, but maybe freeing up the suspension will help a little. My 2wd was able to float the nose thru the bumps, and was faster/more stable thru there. |
These are 540's, but the endbell is the same on the 550's. Notice the notch in the Ballistic endbell compared to the HV (which doesn't have it). The Novak Ballistic 550 fits without grinding in case anybody cares.

I'll be ordering a slipper basket soon aswell...shimmed, not shimmed, HD pads, new spring = 2 heats on a fresh set of pads...tried to go 3 tonight and could barely make up some of the bigger features...:flaming:

No no no.... not a band-aid. You have my assurance that it is a legitimate concern. Check your stock pads first though. It's a lackluster design pushing all that rear power through a single slipper pad. I think the main issue is that AE has a bunch of stoner dropouts engineering it's products getting paid in peanut-butter filled pretzels. Those guys took lots of engineering classes and may have even graduated but couldn't get real jobs so they are designing toy cars and doing a stellarly mediocre job at it.

Well by the looks of things it seems we found the weak link in this truck, the slipper. I know some don't have any issues, which is fine for them. I've got guys running a 8.5 540 keeping up with my 4.5 550 because my slipper just won't stay tight. 3-4 min into a run I can't clear the jumps with short run-ins like the rest of the trucks can. Clutch basket here I come!! Other than this issue the truck is dialed and is a joy to drive.
I don't feel every little change but I will say sway bars make a huge difference on this truck! I knew they would help but never would have thought they would make such a big difference..... |
