The idler or diff isn't in upside down.
I'm well aware of how its fitted.

It's been fine for a year, I recently discovered some friction so I reckon either the gearbox case is worn or something is rubbing inside the case but I can't see wear marks.
Even though its a year old it hasn't had much use as its hardly used all winter.
I was pleased to discover, after using tips from here, that I'd not lost any diff fluid!
Shame about the friction though.

This is a total guess. If the shaft that the idler gear rides on shifts even a tiny bit it will put the idler gear in a bind.

Is it at all possible that the case has been damaged where the shaft inserts?

Could one of the bearings locked up temporarily and caused the shaft to spin, damaging the case?

Rubbing Top shaft

Seen before , can over torque the gear case screws..
Warps the gear case ..

solution
Ad a shim , just pop out the outside top shaft bearing by removing the button screw. Then add a shim inside the case and replace the bearing .

Had one yesterday doing the same ...

I've been in this thread from the start so I know not to over tighten the case screws.
It binds just pinched together with my fingers.
I'm guessing the case has worn around the idler gear pin or the top shaft bearing mount.
I have a spares car so I'll rip that down and try that case. I've already taken a shock standoff, springs and a drive shaft off it so I may as well break it down completely now.

Give the shim a try , not a for sure solution but still say it may be all you need to do .

Beach

Examine the inside of the gear case and look for two bumps from too long of screw been used mounting the shock tower...

The bumps rub the counter gear and can be trimmed off with a X knife and replace screws with the correct size ..

Haha.
How dare you suggest I used the wrong screws!!
lol
I'll have a look, something needs shimming or sanding or replacing but I can reassure you it was built meticulously.

Researching set-ups and performance of this chassis I noticed that both Maifields win in 2012 ROAR Supernats and Max Fluer's win a that the PNB they had used overdrive. I have never tried this setting. What can you gain from the overdrive? Front bite?

I have my slipper set-up to a Garo-disk for the front and a 3 pad VTS decoupled. 30K front diff and currently 5K rear. I think I will set-up to start testing with overdrive.

Tom

19t pulley gives more pull mid & exiting the turn &

more aggressive steering

easy & fun to try , and if you no like ?

can switch back to the under drive, which is smoother...

Hey thanks, I have a Tekno SCT410, Durango DESC410 and a Losi MIP SCTE and right now my two favorites are the Tekno and SC10 4x4 Lite. Regarding my driving skills, I consider myself a sportmans club level racer, nothing special. I don't have the time to practice or race enough to improve what little skills I have left.

Here is another edited video of my Sunday practice session. Instead of just showing how fast and smooth the SC10 4x4 is this video shows some of that and stuff like in air control, traction rolls, stability at speed, how a lite handles getting hit (pipes), etc.
