Over the 22 buggy finally, took a year but i did learn a lot on tuning
Question, im assuming this is the thread for the +8 car as well? :p Got mine working pretty good

This is the correct thread.

I dropped the Losi and picked up almost 2 seconds over my fast lap. Recently turned 2 more laps than the usual as well. I'm not going back.

Thanks man! Thats the reason i stuck with it as long as i did. Part of it may heve been my set-up just got down a beaten trail since i really started playing with pistons and springs but im just over how un-predictable the car can be (22) on a medium bite track and if the track changes and you dont do a set-up change its hard to run at a race pace.
I got my b4 dialed in yesterday and i will have to say im about .5 secondes faster on average. I used to race a b4 a long time ago ever since it was the stealth car so im glad to be back with it. If you saw my car at wcrc saturday it was somewhat hurting but thats my fault for not going thru a car before running it. Had way too much rear toe plus the previous owner had the esc mounted in the battery tunnel and i couldn't tell that the anti squat shim came out of place and only on one side lol. I put the newer version shim in as well as a lot less rear toe and the car came to life.

140 is alittle cool actually,if you think it's good on power just leave it,I'm right at 153-157 after my quals on my x12 17.5.

Is it? After about 20 minutes my "8.5" is in the 140 range geared at 23/78 no less.

I've always been told 160 or alittle cooler is where you wanna be,if you were running 90* then I would say keep going up a tooth till you get close to 160.140 is good

I had a couple AE ball cups split on me and switched over to RPM but I've had a couple of the RPM cups pop off on pretty mild hits. By comparison, I think I only popped two on my 22 in a year but popped two Friday night, one of which ended the main on an off camber landing that shouldnt have done anything. Not sure what I'm going to try next.

Gearing and Temp

I have typically found that the 17.5 you have to gear or time to the max in order to gain max power which means they will run much hotter than say an 8.5. Typically when I race 17.5 my motor would come off between 160 to 180... (yes I know 180 is warm and yes you should keep it under 160) but this is usuallly for a trophy race or big race that I would run 17.5.

I mostly run my 8.5 or 7.5 in my B4.1W and most often after a 6 or 7 min race the motor would be around 130 to 135 at best. You usually do not have to run the lower turn motors that hard because they make so much more power and you do not have to gear them really hard. I would say if you are running your 8.5 up to 160 in a 2wd buggy you are most likely overgeared or over timed. (Large outdoor tracks in the heat of summer would be an exception)

I usually ran an 81/23 on a medium to large indoor track and then a 81/24 or 81/25 on a really large outdoor track with my 8.5

I have ran the RPM and stock AE ball cups and here is what I have personally found...

The AE ball cups are good and stay on well but do tend to break before they pop off. I have split many down the middle especially on the rear camber link.

The RPM long or short ball cups work great when they are new but if they get popped on and off about 3 or 4 times they seem so loose thier hold and then pop off really easy from their. I have never broken the RPM but lost a few racing because I loose a rear camber link during a race...

I have mostly gone back to the stock AE cups because they hold better longer overall, are cheap but do break every now and then.

Mirrors my results so far.

Can I use a hobby wing justock esc in the b4?

chancejeff 05-21-2012 09:02 PM

Shoot my rpm ball cups haven't failed me yet never popped off during a race and I have had them for awhile, but those AE ball cups completely failed me but that is probably because I was new to the sport than and crashed more

JFuel11 05-21-2012 09:12 PM

Looks like it would fit.

The hobbywing juststock esc looks like it should fit well in the B4. Couldn't find dimension on it anywhere on the hobbywing website. As long is it is not too tall should be good to go.

hanzo3 05-21-2012 09:15 PM

60A or 120A hobbywing ESC?
