nice pic you made :) for a tranny brace, instead of it being a solid steel rod, what would happen if I made it a shock to adjust flex? or would it be better to run 2 aluminum rods and un hook one of them for more flex?

rammstein88 12-10-2009 04:39 PM

if you where to use shocks they would have to be very very stiff shocks. you would be better off using a softer material.

rcjunky1 12-10-2009 04:43 PM

The other thing would be have a thin metal t bar (like a pan car) with a rod on each side, so you could have a thicker or thiner t bar to adjust flex, but what it all comes down to, is changing the flex at all noticable?

for motor rotation i had another idea. what about using a belt system instead of the pinion and spur, just use 2 pulleys and a belt? just a thought.

Already checked into it!Found a place with pinion pulleys from 12t-40t, Was going to use a 42t diff pulley from a XXX-4 with slipper pads CA'd to it, One problem, nobody makes a belt in 48,49, and 50t lengths. And thats what's needed for the motor spacing to remain the same.I can find 40t-44t and then 55t, then 58t-and higher..I have a 55t belt I was using to set things up, and I even tried to put a belt tensioner in line and the 55t is just too longUsing the 42t slipper pulley, you need a 18t-20t to get the correct FDR for a 17.5To get higher drive ratios for any motor larger than a 13.5 would require finding an S3m pitch slipper pulley larger than 44t.,So give it a whirl,If you can find a 48-50t s3m pitch belt PM Me immediately please!!It would be cool to be able to run a belt drive at least for 17.5 and 13.5! It would be so quiet and efficient!!

i wasnt planning on trying it...just an idea. you can get belts from mc carr right?

not in anywhere near the right size.I was going to do it,and may still if I can find belts in the right lengths.I did find some open ended belts and a joiner kit,But for the price, I didnt want to risk it.

rammstein88 12-10-2009 11:43 PM

understandable. i was also throwing a pure belt idea(no tranny) in my head, essentially the rear drive line of a xx-4, but no matter what the motor would have to be run reverse. prolly wont do that

man i got this and another winter project going. gunna be a busy winter.

rcjunky1 12-11-2009 04:00 AM

Could you make a hybrid of the 2, like have the standard tranny, then have 2 pullies, one on each outdrive, going to 2 pullies mounts on another diff in the stock location with a 1:1 ration and a tensoiner. Right now I'm thinking I'm going to mirror the tranny on my car, but does anyone have sources for the right sized spacers?

nrtv20 12-11-2009 05:15 AM

I thought about a belt set up too, I know they run a short belt in the rear of On-road gas cars. Probably alittle overkill for a 1/10 buggy but its available parts. There is always the ability to run the short belts from the XX-4 front end, and the new Schum. 3 belt car too. Food for thought.

mopar1994 12-11-2009 02:09 PM

I like the belt idea, I never thought of that. I have a xxx-4 that's laying around that I can play with. What are the advantages of belt drive besides being more quiet?

So, I should be getter a chassis to cut up soon. I'm thinking I may just reverse the rotation of the motor on the esc, then once my driving ability has improuved, I may add the fourth gear, but for now I suck at driving just enough to probably not realize the differance. I ran mod 2wd yesterday and got second in the b main with 9 in the heat, 17 in total, 2 mains, and when I ran stock I got 2nd in the c main out o 20 or so, 3 mains, but both times was beat by someone far better then me, and 3rd was at least 1/2 lap back. So, in conclusion, think I'm just going to ell/trade my tc spec and get an esc to reverse the motor, the easyist and cheapest way.

I had a mixed day sat. at the northern nats race. Had fun hanging out with race buddies,And Rammstein dropped by the track for a bit.Nice to meet him in person. The MM buggy and truck both handled really well. I had the worst luck as far as breakage goes though. Round 1 nothing broke, round 2, ALL 3 vehicles broke, round 3, 2 of 3 vehicles broke, and the mains, 2 of 3 vehicles broke. I broke more parts sat. than I have broken in the last year!! None of my custom fabbed peices broke, all stock peices.

The race action was ROUGH on the track.I think common courtesey went out the window during Qualifying.Alot of the breakage I undured was due to rough driving during qualifying. My SC was t-boned so hard during the 3rd round it blew the receiver case apart, broke a BATTERY STRAP, and ejected the lipo from the truck.

I broke things like F bulkheads, rear carriers, axles from being hit in the side. That was actually THE roughest race I have ever run.Alot of it due to out of state guys. The track was refunding the entry fees of any out of stater to place in the top 3 in the A, so quite a few of those guys had an "out for blood" attitude come the 3rd round and the main.

But like I said, fun day hanging out with freinds, car and truck handled good, and are improving nicely every outing. The counter gear cam plate Worked flawlessly all day. By the way I think I will have a neet 'little' toy to show off by the end of the week!!

rammstein88 12-13-2009 12:30 PM

uh oh. more surprises.

got my CF, now i just need to finish collecting parts and i will be ready to start building.

mopar1994 12-13-2009 06:33 PM

i cut out the chassis tonight
