I run on a fairly large indoor track and when I run a 13.5 I use a 21/84 with great balance of torque and top speed. Motor temps never get over 135°.

So, I have been running my FT SC10 for the last week or so with the stock rims on it, and they seem to be working great. However, I would like to get another set of tires (JConcept Barcodes), and have them on another set of rims so that I can switch out between them and my Sucultures. However, I am stuck on whether I should just buy another set of AE stock rims, or convert all 4 hubs over to 12mm hexes.
It looks like it would cost about $40 or so just to convert the hubs, and don't really wanna do it if I don't need to. I know that some of you guys with FT's convert to hexes, and some don't. So, I'm wondering what you guys think about switching them over... do the stock rears strip out easily if your careful to keep them tightened? I know that the options are more vast by going hexes, but I'm not worried about that so much, the AE stocks look fine to me. Thanks for all of the help! |
honestly I think the main advantage I am seeing from those going with hexes is that it easier to line them up on the rims, and you can rotate the tires front to rear.
hexes are nice though, the Academy used them (now TQ Racing line) and that was a nice feature for sure. But, if you like the pin setup or don't really care, you can find pin setup wheels pretty cheap because of people going to hexes. |
i went to hex's for the simple reason of rotating like cain says plus i couldn't get a pin wheel to last more than 15-20 min
|
I'll most likely move to hexes down the road when I need to buy new tires.

Went to hexes to run Hazard rims. Really makes the truck more stable. Got J-Concepts hexes all around and super happy with them.

I run Hex cause my RS came with them. 95% of the people at the track race with run Hex. So it makes it very easy to borrow tires and test the ones they have and see how they work out., I run DE racing rims. Work very good. I have ran the Hazards on the 2wd but they work better on the 4x4. |
Sounds good. Thanks for the help guys! ( I don't understand why in the world the RS comes with hexes but the FT doesn't  Doesn't make any sense if you ask me)

for about year already ... When they upgrade the Team kit , then expect parts like the hex's to be included... |
For those of you using the jconcepts hexes, looking on their website they say they need to be used with there wheels.
What is the issue with using say AE hex wheels, if any? |
Hope it comes with aluminum hexes and they got some big bores when it is updated.
J-Concepts will work with AE hex rims. |

$40 to convert the hubs? Its about $15 if you buy the AE parts instead if the proline kit that's $30.. but what I don't know is if you need new bearings? Or if its the same as the wheels? Im about to order the parts right now. That's also why I was asking about pinion and spur setups.
|
good question about the bearings in the hexes. Will look at the sc10rs manual and see what the size is.
confirmed: uses 3/16 x 3/8 bearing. same size as FT uses. Do people feel you need aluminium hexes up front or just the rear ? |
