I've got the Y strap in mine. You can't run the battery all the way to the rear position with the older tower but I don't think most folks do this anyway, correct? Zac, I did poke three holes in the brace to allow the balance cable and bullet connectors to plug in while the battery was still in the truck.

Ball diff to gear diff case modification

I just got the FTSC10 and came with a ball dif, everything I am reading and hearing from others is a mixed review. I think I like the idea of low maint. on the gear diff. I am looking to change my ball diff to a gear dif and the guy at the local hobby shop mentioned that I would have to modify my FT case to accomidate going to a gear diff.

Anyone know anything about that?

Thanks.

Thanks for the replies.

I have the square strap.

I haven't tried putting the battery in with the wires yet, but I can see both the holes in the lipo so I might just need to dremel a little bit away for that.

My main problem is just getting the battery compartment closed enough to be able to lock it.

Thanks Joker, I'm deffinitly putting that strap on my list of things to get. That will probably be a couple months out though.

I have both ball-dif & gear-dif.. i use the ball-dif when i race & the gear-dif when just playing in the backyard.. u will def feel the difference between the both (when racing).. Also if the ball-dif is built & adjusted properly it will last for a long time. it all depends where ur running it! if ur racing it, ball-dif hands down! if ur bashing it, gear dif all the way!

Anyway, the answer to ur question is "No"... i just slap either in without doing anything else.. just make sure u check for slop from side to side & shim if needed!

Sweet thanks for the info, appreciate it. I guess I will give the ball diff a shot. I didn't think that I would need to mod the case, really why would AE make 2 different cases for the same truck ;)

Thanks again!

They also offer the RS Y-strap. same one that comes in the RS kit, its plastic but only cost 10 bucks.

the original sc10 didn't have the ball diff option so u had to run a t4 tranny and t-plate. that's what he probably ment (what I had to do)
then mip came out with 1 so ae followed and then made it stock with the ft package

I prefer the maintanence of a ball diff over gear diff. I like building and assembling things.

Also I like being able to adjust on the fly for fine tuning.

I am still learning though.

Would you guys suggest setting up and using a ball diff for a novice? i have never raced before, and never setup a ball diff before

Sure. Its not as scary as it may seem. Even if you follow the instructions in the manual you will have a decent working diff. If you set the slipper correctly and the ball diff according to the manual it will be fine. If you hear it chatter when you get on the gas, you have diff slippage and it needs to be tightened a titch. It has a very distinctive sound compared to slipper slippage. Rebuilding ball diffs is kinda fun in my opinion.

Absolutely.

Follow this and you'll be fine:

As an aside, I switched from carbide to ceramic balls in my pan car almost a decade ago. I just did it on my SC10 and the result is even bigger. They cost me less than $10 delivered. When the diff is fresh they don't feel that much different, but after one race day....yowza.
