The chassis is not the same. B6.1 is a tiny bit shorter. It just doesn't make sense to convert. You'd have to spend way too much money to get it the same as the new car. And the new car feels way better, so it's definitely worth to get. I sold my old b6d as a roller and took off some nicer upgrade parts and sold those separate. New car ended up being just over 50 bucks. I figure it's gotta be at least 200 to properly convert.

For now it is: 40$ chassis + 15$ gearbox and diff inserts + 10$ ball stud mount + 15$ motor plate(cool one, TEP3073)
If everything goes right i'll keep 65mm bones and shock tower

Are the b5 front wheel hex the same as the b6 ones? Except for the material used? As i want steel ones instead of aluminum

I know that. I don't care. I wanted the b6.1d transmission and with the way the B6 has plummeted in value with the new car's release, I decided I'd rather convert and keep using my very fresh B6 for a while. It makes sense to me.

It depends on what you want to convert. A full, 100% conversion probably isn't worth it, my b6.1d/layback conversion is transmission cases, motor plate, 67mm bones & new hubs. The necessary parts cost me a little more than $70. I had to modify a couple of parts and may still get a chassis while they're cheap on eBay.

Currently racing a B5m in 17.5 sportsman and have been doing good in it (top 3-4 consistently). I would like to get a new buggy since I’ve got lots to tires for an associated buggy. Running on indoor clay (NorCal hobbies, Rainman hobbies) I’m assuming the D would be the way to go but some of the fast guys are running the regular 6.1 and are winning expert and intermediate.. would the regular 6.1 be the way to go or should I just go with the 6.1d. I love the way my 5m drives but in corners the newer cars are faster obviously. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Shock tower issue solved with a bit of strength. Must add at least 1mm stroke to mantain B6.1 geometry. B6.1 shock tower is shorter because the new gearbox raises shock tower mounting holes.

Would it be possible to install b6 topshaft onto the b6.1 laydown . So we could then use exotek direct drive
#1350
yes, a number of us already have. The b6's slipper doesn't interfere with either of the 6.1 transmissions. FYI, the b6 top shaft us 1mm narrower between the bearings.
