I don't know it will help you as i am running the F104 Pro in wide config but here it is
Front hards springs.
A drop of 300K oil on the king pins.
1 degree toe-out
Centre shock 300 Tamiya oil with 3 hole piston and red spring.
T-bar is the high grip with the above mentioned mod.
Steel rear axle and i have ditched the ballbearing in the diff and used the F103 trustbearing instead, just change the springwashers in this )( position.
Pit front tires are the PS-0543 and rear the PS-0545
I used the Zippy flightmax 4000MAH lipos and the electronics on the normall side position.
This would give me on a tarmac track a nicely balanced car.
In your case with the shorty lipo's it would normally give a understeered car but due to the soft front tires it will oversteer.

Tamiya tires do not work on carpet. There is a reason why all the TCS races are on foams when it is a carpet facility.

Try Pit Shimizu.

Very high grip indoor asphalt. Using spec rubbers (that are similar, but not the same to the tam hard front/soft rear combo), and 21.5t blinky.

On low grip or dusty carpet I'd run 574/575. On higher grip Id run 571/572.

Chaddude, hate to say it but the Tamiya tires just don't work on carpet and are only average at best on asphalt.
Kit tires are basically a medium compound front and rear. The option rears are soft and option fronts are hard and no other variables are available from Tamiya.
Get the Pit Shims when you can, problem solved. Til then you'll be hatin it but the advice above is good.
Soften and loosen the rear. Lite oil with your soft spring, loosen the center screw several turns or remove the center screw and glue that shock foam or a soft O ring where the screw was (pic in post above),and instead of grease use lite diff fluid like 2000wt on the side damper.
You can try no sauce on the fronts but it'll probably be a bulldozer now.
Really wouldn't kill too much time tryin to make it into a racecar with the Tamiya tires cuz that's everything.

571 572 workin best and last the longest for us here on carpet and asphalt. Just sauce the fronts per conditions for carpet, Jack the Gripper or SXT 1/2 to full tire.
Tire Tweak works great on the Pit Shimz for asphalt.
Keep that rear setup soft and loose til too much rear grip then adjust accordingly.

Now I can say that I can recommend use of short lipo. Weight of short pack is about the same with my regular size 4000mAh lipo pack, "measured" in hands the weight is now more in the back of a car (front end a bit lighter than it was) but it was working very well for me (smaller carpet track and foam tires), better off-power steering and no problem with on-power understeer.
Plus the room in the car gives You more options for servo and battery position... I have aprox. 3mm foam spacer in the back of the pack to have better acces to battery conectors.


I have Kimbrough saver (code 201) which has shorter arm than Tamiya saver so the servo could be moved more forward but cutting the mounts from servo case is necessary. I use 5 or 6mm of spacers and steering links are not 100% flat but very close to compared with stock position.


Could You please describe which front arms, rear tires ect. are You using? I'm thinking about wide mod as well...thanks

@DFX.....I am running the F103 front suspension.
Dremel a bit of the steering blocks so you can play with the ride height.
Front tires are foam Gp speed tires 40sh or 42sh
Rear tires are same brand and 25sh or 30sh.
Front spoiler is from the F104Pro and the rear spoiler is from the Ferrarri 412T1

As I never had F103 which suspension is the best? There is carbon reinforced Tamiya, Tamiya link type, 3racing suspension...
My plan is to use some durable F103 suspension, thin TRG steering blocks, if possible F104 fronts and some wide rears...

I run the stock or the carbon reinforced F103 suspension on my cars.
Tried the Tamiya link type suspension but that gives play very quickly
If you use the front F104 tires, the car will stand to high at the front.
Just use the F103 type wheels and tires all around.

Great sounds good what short packs are you using ?

Interesting the dislike for the tamiya tires because here this all I use and my F1 is hooked up onrails it's difficult to get break the rear loose must be lucky here I I use medium fronts and rear cooler weather soft rears still have not used the pits never in stock when I'm doing a order to try them and carpet I use foams

Don't dislike the Tamiya foam tires(HBR soft and HBR medium) but they are hard to get here and cost a lot.
I pay about 20 euro's for a set foams front and rear for GP speed tires.
If i want to use the Tamiya tires it will cost me about 35 euro's for just the foams
Rubber for the F103 is even more expencive
Using Pit's for the rain and/or carpet.
For tarmac i use foams.
I have loaned a CRC shorty lipo to use in my F103 and F104.

How about f104 alu motor mount with f103 wheels? Is there enough of ride height? And do the f103 rims fit f104 pro dif.? They say f103 is 20cm wide and f104 18. But f103 rear tires are only 7mm wider than f104 tires?
Sorry for questions but I haven't found F104W manual to make parts list for the mod "Pro->Wide"...


I use Pro-match 4000mAh 60C pack and now a friend of mine ordered some new pack from IP 4400mAh 50C...another club member has Reedy 4000mAh 60C. I'm not sure if there are big differences in today's lipo packs (except price).
BTW Thanks for the SP 1 cell motor advice, it looks that the motor has extremely low power consumption with good power output!
