South West Series

July 29 - July 30

281-557-8250

This is a sign up at the door series. Nitro classes only. Give the track a call for more information. That's this weekend. I ran the track today. It has a nice blue high traction groove on my rubber tires. Should make for some fast racing.

RCshark-Welcome to the thread. Thanks for your efforts over there. The Southwest series was posponed due to bad weather. They are running this weekend. Track looked good on Friday. There were a few 1/8 scale and 1/10 scale nitro car practicing for the weekend race.

Default Sugar Water

The last 2 weekends my son and I have gone to the track to get some practise. Jeff has started to spray powdered sugar with water on the track. He used about 18 pounds of sugar! Man the grip was awesome, and the lap times were low

Hi all,

new user to forum and even to track racing.

Friend and I will hopefully make a visit to the track on Sept 9 to check it out.

Anyway, quick question. I know a general rule at tracks is you gotta claim your freq. so you're not running the same as someone else.

But what if you have a FM Synth radio? Like I'm thinking of getting a Spektrum 2.4Ghz digital radio for my two cars (RC10B4 and Tamiya F201 F1). I wouldn't have to claim any freq cause it'll automatically claim one on that band, but is there any kind of track rule I guess for it anyway?

Hope that makes sense.

thanks,
shaun

I haven't been to the track in some time, but I would be willing to guess a little under half of the racers use Spektrum, and they love it. Mike's is really the most lax track in the U.S. Electric has a 10 turn limit, and I raced with a 9 turn, of course after talking to the racers. Everybody is there to drive their cars and have fun. No one cares too much about the technicalities. Just run what ya brung!

Excellent. Both my cars are running the new Mamba Max brushless motors so I'm more into just bashing around. Don't think I could really qualify for much racing perhaps.

I don't know anything about the Mamba Max brushless, but the Neo and the Novak 5580 (I think) are the legal ones. I think just as long as the Mamba Max is somewhere close to 10 turn equivalent, you should be fine. If it's a 6 turn or something, you need to sit down and talk with the other racers.

And if I see you up there some time, can I take your F201 for a spin? I've been thinking about getting into the F1 chassis.

I think the 5700 (b4) is around a 9T, while the 7700 (f1) is like a 5T unofficially I've read. I'll have to see what Castle Creations says.

Sure thing, though having that 7700 brushless might give a false impression

Here's what Castle said in case anyone else is wondering:

The 4600 would be like a hand wound 12T or so.

The 5700 is going to act like the best hand wound 10 turn motor you've ever heard of.

The 7700 would be like a 5/6T.

--------------------------------

Along with the 10T equivilant limit for brushless users, is there cell limit on the battery packs?

Sorry for all the questions, but thanks for helping out.

Does anyone know when the offroad track is going to be finished? What scales are they going to be running?

Don't know when the off-road will be finished, but the driver stand is in place, the refueling lane is in place the surface has been prepped leveled and graded, ready for clay. Won't be too long, but it is somewhat weather dependent. The largest classes are 1/10 nitro and 1/8 nitro at the big races as the current track is very long. The new carpet track may spur more interest in 1/10 and 1/12 electric.

Should be an 1/12 class on the new second floor carpet track. They just finished framing the roof for the carpet track. The floor is framed.

This Saturday Jeff is holding and open practice. We had four guys at practice on this Thursday so the RC bug is starting to bite again now that the weather is cooling a bit. He plans to Sugar water the track, so traction should be excellent. A front is coming but it won't make it through until Monday according to Dr. Frank, so the weather Saturday should be good. I will be running a 1/10 brushless electric pan car Saturday on the long 1/8 scale circuit. It is getting to be pretty fast.

Dust your cars off and come by this Saturday.

John
