yep that’s exactly what we do! Or u can put both speakers in one muff and make it sound awesome! I love the harbor frieght muffs cause u can do whatever u want. And if u got crazy and wanted to hear your car you could take apart the lexin r6 and put it in your car. Which would be sick. Maybe I would do that sometime just Incase I needed to tune my engine when everyone’s on the track and I can’t hear!!

got to try the what I think are the ultralite units, one single ear and other dual ear. Other than definitely getting ear-sweaty I thought they worked excellent. Not normally doing nitro (trying it again) it was nice to actually be able to speak to my pitman versus yelling and making bad attempts at sign language.
To confirm though, I seem to recall one of the headsets NOT having like an on / off switch, is that the case? one had it on the bottom, didn't see it on the other.

Came here looking for information regarding headsets...thinking about getting a set...prepping for the day when I may finally race...
...overall, what a PITA and a crazy extra expense.
Looking through some local-track pictures on FB, and I think it's about 50/50 of those who use headsets and those who don't. Just talk down to your pit person, or is that a track faux pas? To be honest, I would feel more comfortable with a double-ear-muff design rather than a single-ear set. Unless you're totally deaf, you'll be able to hear the announcer's loudspeaker through the muffs despite both ears covered. It's quiet, but it's not dead silent. Save your hearing for another day.

If you're racing somewhere that follows ROAR rules then it isn't allowed to have a double ear muff for the racer.
The SMARTcom headsets are better priced than some of the other options and have some RC-specifc features too including timers/refuel reminders. https://wbfactoryracing.com/collections/smart-workshop

Hello mushroomed and Friends,
As far as I know, IFMAR is allowing to use Double Ear Muff only for the Pit Crew. I don't know about ROAR Rules.
Cheers..

For nitro racing 'just talking' isn't going to cut it with a full field of noisy cars on track or in pit lane. You can try yelling but even that isn't enough a lot of times. Of course you can use hand signals with your pit guy for tuning, but talking with the headset is much easier, clearer and more relaxed. The other big advantage of the headset is that your pit guy can be watching the track ahead of you and letting you know of any traffic/crashes ahead, where your competitors are at etc.

Same rule for ROAR too, double headphone is okay for the pit guy but not the driver… if nothing has changed since the rule linked at the start of in this thread!
