I picked up another I'm sending to Advanced to get upgraded so I can adjust the brakes a bit more through the software.
The new software has a bootloader built in, so the ESC's can have their firmware upgraded via the USB cable instead of returning it.

Once you have the newer firmware the brakes will be better

The newest firmware is still the v3, right?

No, there is now a beta (b.3.03), but the only visible difference in the software for the PC is it has a Switching Frequency from 200Hz to 32KHz

Where does one acquire said beta? And what does the switching frequency do?

I'm afraid the beta is a 'back to Sweden' job (it was installed on mine without my knowing when I returned it for repair) but hopefully once installed, from then on you won't have to return it for upgrades.

The switching frequency is sometimes called the drive frequency. It's how fast the signals are being sent to the motor.

The higher frequency is supposed to be able to create more top end, but at the expense of low end grunt and efficiency (higher motor temps), low frequencies produce the opposite.

So far I haven't really seen any noticable difference when changing this.
The V2.1 software was set at 8KHz apparently.

I have the LV and was going to run in at the worlds in Holland next week in touring with boost on setting 2 with a 5.0 and I was going to mount a 30mm fan on it. Has anybody else used the LV instead of the TC model for touring in mod? I know they say that the limit is 10.5 on the LV in Touring. But I was hoping on using it. I figured on pavement with a 5.0 and with the weather only getting to 80 or so I should be ok. I hope...

Really sorting this out the week before!!!! Doh!

Send an email to Per @ Advanced to double check. For some reason I thought the LV was only 1 cell applications. Could be wrong.

All my units are TC. I sent a email to Advanced as well.

I'm not really caring how I do in TC I'm really going for 12th scale and have the 5.0 and LV worked out for that. I just don't want to blow it up participating in the TC event.
I have been using my LV in TC since day one at the 2009 US indoor champs in Cleveland in 17.5 foam TC the BD finished 123 (myself 3rd) at that race. Ran 13.5 foam TC at Snowbirds 2010 and finished 3rd again behind a tekin and a GM who had better drivers. Ran it at the region 5 race 2011 in Indy in USVTA and at the 2012 Carpet Nats in USVTA just because I can.

I know the LV was easily rated at 10.5 in TC but don't know if anybody was running the LV with a 5.0t in TC. I'll hit up Per and see what they have to say. Thanks.

LV has been fine for 13.5 TC (blinky) though I do run a fan.

Those 25mm "Seis" fans are a perfect fit. You just have to pick up some long M2 screws from mcmaster.

I got a note back from Per - you should be good with the LV & 5T - as long as you have a fan on it. Good luck.

Of course you should be happy, means we don't have to run a fan on the ESC

In other news, I haven't really found any benefit when running high drive frequencies.
At my Friday night club (Newbury) 30m*16m I found dropping the frequency to 2KHz did help with the bottom end, but it didn't help with top speed.
This Friday I will try to gear up slightly and use 1KHz.

At a bigger outdoor track I go to (Aldershot, 50m straight), I tried between 40-50 mid timing, 4KHz and gearing from 6.23 up to 5.37, although the motor stayed cool it just wasn’t quick enough on the straights.
In the end I ran 6.23 with 47deg mid timing with 8KHz and added a few degree’s on the motor (30deg). This was only fractionally slower down the long straight than the fastest local guys. (Most are geared around 6.5 using Tekin’s etc and everything is set to max.)

In a couple of weeks at Aldershot I will try a little less motor timing and max out the ESC timing and try really high drive frequencies (32KHz)
I only run Thunder Power motors now and the above is in boosted 13.5

The Hobbywing is cheaper, but other than that I have never used one.
