Weird. I posted this earlier, but it disappeared. So...if you look on the 3Racing site, all of the rebuild parts, including the case for the M05/06 oil filled diff, are Sakura part numbers. Bingo dingo! Look at the bottom of the page.

The narrower one is a spool made for the XV01TC

There is no point buying the Sakura FF diff as it is basically the same as the 3Racing M06 (M05) diff but in a case that won't fit the Tamiya Mini.

The 3Racing diff works fine in a Mini as long as you run it in A LOT. The standard seals are badly sized and need a lot of breaking in. Locally we've found that a well sorted gear diff is always faster than a ball diff by a couple of tenths a lap.

The TA-03 ball diff will fit.
Questions were about gear diffs.

Spec-R has also gear diffs for M05/06.
I have 2 3-Racing ones in my M05 RA and my M06 Pro,
and Iīm really happy with them. Especially on my M06, where the diff has already done 6 Races and practice without leaking or any trouble.
The blades make it perfect. I hope 3-Racing will restock these.

Maybe I will also order a Spec-R diff for my other M06 this season.

Matthias

Diff carrier with 39T is the same for Sakura and M05/06,
the side plate is specially made for the Mīs from alloy and a special spacer for the other side.

Thanks guys! Most online stores I went had them out of stock (well, the proper M-06 ones from 3racing) hence my search. Cheers to all

So, to stay TCS-legal, one must run Tamiya springs.

I'll be running the Tamiya PN 54000 aluminum shocks in an M05, mostly on asphalt.

Which Tamiya spring kit is the best one to get?

What exactly do you mean by a well sorted gear diff?

I run an M03 and for several years I ran the Tamiya ball diff. Everyone was telling me the ball diffs strip, but I never had a problem. Until, that is, I went to the TCS race in New Jersey. Sure enough in practice my car stopped moving. I ws fortunate that another racer had a fully set up gear diff for an M03 and didn't need it because he was running an M05. Well racing season will be here soon and I want to go through the car, but I don't want to mess up the diff. Any suggestions?

By gear diff I meant oil-filled gear diffs, the Tamiya kit "open" gear diff is a completely different kettle of fish.

Pretty much on the money. We do have a guy running locally who's very fast with a ball diff, but it's very notchy and he's an incredibly good driver. Oil filled diffs, spools and locked up stock diffs are the order of the day for everyone here.

An odd effect of the tighter diffs is that RWD cars have been knocked almost completely out of contention. Once the problem of getting the power down in the FWD cars was sorted, that was it. Also, the M06 is an over-engineered, fragile, turd of a car. (M04 still rocks.)
