I use sedan tire warmer cups, works a charm.

I'm thinking of getting into F1 racing with an X1. I'd appreciate any help on setup you guys could offer. Track is 78X38 CRC High grip carpet. In looking at the options I'm wondering if I should build on the aluminum chassis? Also wondering about an aluminum pod plate? I have no idea what to get as far as front and side springs? As far as the center shock, I'm wondering about the spring for that and also what handling on the car this spring affects? I hear the bearings break pretty easy so I will get some of them, any other spare part suggestions? The F1 class at my track is running 21.5's.

If it is the new black CRC carpet, get the aluminum chassis and plate. I also use Tamiya super-soft springs in front and the next stiffer xray spring for the center shock.

That would mean getting out my tyre warmers, sounds like too much hard work

Had my X1 on the track for the 2nd day today and love it. I had a couple questions about tuning.

1. What handling effects do you get from softening / stiffening the side springs?

2. What / how do you set / tune the rear diff. Not absolutely sure but I think I noticed after I tightenend the diff a couple of times to eliminate the unloading of the light wheel in turns it hurt my turns, I was unable to keep my turns as tight. Basically I could hear the rear unloading so I kept tightening the diff a bit over a few runs. Do you ever want to rid the rear of some unloading? Wondering if the diff is ok and maybe I should go from 1.5 to 2 camber in front to get better / tighter turns, I'm using the 6 degree camber pills.

Thanks,
Dayne

Seem to recall being told that if the inside rear unloads too easily, try the softer side springs.

I have not run the X1 on carpet but based on past carpet experience I would start with 15 or 20k.

I've read some are using the Tamiya 54413 damper tubes. Are these better than the X1 kit tubes. Also do they fit the kit ball studs?

Thanks

Back on the Xray F1 2015, we were replacing the side shock with the tamiya part. Not sure anyone is doing that with the 2016 xray. the tamiya tube is kind of short and fat.

Thanks Jay,
I've been running touring cars for a bit and I am familiar with there tuning characteristics. I am now trying to learn about tuning the F1. I have one day on track with a 2016 X1. Can you give me a lesson on how soft / hard dampening affects tuning / handling characteristics in conjunction with soft / hard side springs? I'm also trying to understand how rear pod droop effects handling characteristics of the F1.

Thanks!

It's a slight difference. The nice thing about the stock axle is that it's hollowed out. Not super heavy like most F1s out there using a full on steel axle. On carpet, I feel a bigger difference in acceleration. On asphalt, the steel seems to add more rear traction. I am currently using carbon in both my asphalt and carpet X1. Save the $40 if you are running on asphalt.
