That steering plate has adjustable ackerman positions, basically you can fine tune the throw going to the right and left wheels with different ackerman.

Im guessing it has something to do with the response time.

You can have the same steering radius with different amounts of ackerman, ackerman just adjusts how the steering response or "feel" would be.

If I remember right, if the ackerman is spaced more rearward (making the steering link straight) the wheels will turn about the same amount left and right. If you move the link forward (angling the steering link) it will make the inner tire turn more than the outer tire, giving a more aggressive feel. It's a really fine adjustment, but you can play around with it and might find something you like.

Sweet, now i understand first thing i learned all day

BTW, does this work also with the knuckles? cause there are 2 holes... i dunno if that has any type of advantage to tuning the amount of steer.

I havent played much with mounting on the knuckles, but all you have to do is pop the link off, and move it to the rearward hole and see if it changes the steering throw on either tire.

hey ted,

Normally i just file my C-hub to make my turning radius more .
but this will only work with the 414m2 .

the 415 steering arms just cant turn more like the 414m2.
the stock 415 steering radius if fix untill i found the solution that new steering plate can be adjust.

dawmeat, can you tell us whats the item number for the steering adjustable plate?

thanks

The Squat steering plate is part number s492. I currently have one on my car. I'm running the rear hole for smoother steering on our high speed carpet layout. I do notice a difference with it. I have yet to try out the aggressive setup. I probably won't try that out til asphalt season.

Actually there is a way to get a tighter turning radius, drop your steering bellcranks all the way down on the posts and shim the ball nuts up 4mm, you can turn up the D/R a little bit more with this setup.
