Can you guys reccomend good gearing for a FT T4 with a sidewinder 5700? I am using the stock spur with a 17t pinion now but it runs on the warmer side about 140 at motor. What are the best combos?

140 isn't bad at all and if anything you are under geared. Try a 19 or 20 tooth with the stock spur gear and watch temps.

140 is not too hot. If it were though, you could get an equal gear ratio by running a smaller pinion. Not necessary for 140 though.. I am running 20/87 w/ a 5700kV motor without any issues at all.

Don't know about you guys but that seems warm to me with a 17tooth pinnion.
A friend of mine was running a FT T4 with the orion system and a 19 tooth pinion and was right at 94.4*F.

Make sure that you have no binding in your drive train.
Just to make sure that you won't end up going 200*F with the 19 tooth

The castle motors produce more torque than normal sensored motors. As such, he is over revving it and that also produces excess heat. Gear it up and the temp should drop if your drivetrain is free.

OHHHHHHHHHH
I get it now. Its basically like when your on the rev limiter of an old car it will over heat.

Still a good idea to check the drive train.
Like Krio said you should be fine.
i didn't know these motors made that much more torque.

When you say gear it up do you mean 18 or 19t pinion or 16 or 15t pinion? Also what is the stock FT T4 spur?

FT stock is 87.. but don't forget these were designed around brushless.... BUT, Castle still recommends a large spur with their modified motors. I am running 20/87 with a 5700kV motor and the thing is a monster.

Gearing up means a bigger pinion.

Let me clarify on the torque: Castle's sensorless motors follow a different design. They have no "stack" that the wire is wound on like novak, lrp, or orion motors. This allows for a much larger rotor for producing more torque. Having said that, it does not mean the castle motors are more powerful. Just that you need to gear them differently to find their sweet spot.
