Since you run the Shock ends unscrewed 2.5 turns I'm guessing you have no internal shock limiters, correct?

I had 10k F and 5k R diff fluid and have been pushing bad in the corners with the slipper pinned. Switched to 5k F and 5k R pinned and it still pushes but not as bad.

I think I will unpin the slipper to save the idler gears and see if I gain some steering. Never ran the new truck unpinned (decoupled) so I don't know how much pinning equates to frontal push.

Thanks for typing all that!
Yup, locked on the front clicker and no internal shock limiters.

On high traction tracks like PGR I would definitely advise against pinning the slipper not only for idler gear damage control but also for handling. You should gain quite a bit of off power/braking steering while loosing some on power steering. From the feedback I've seen here and my own experience I would say pinning the slipper is better on med to low traction tracks while leaving it decoupled (with a clutch basket) is better for high traction surfaces.

Ok guys, I actually have chill bumps right now! I am on my phone so I wont, get to detailed til I get back home so let me just say a few things. Saturday I ran a best time of 23.8 and that is very quick , ebuggy at the last race was 23.4 and my best in ebuggy on a moist track was 22.2 /22.7 this past saturday. Today I put the truck down and within five laps went 22.889! My 10 lap avg was 23.8! Un believable! Only changes were 5k grease in the rear, final version of the ackbar, exotec chassis,no brace, yellow front springs an ft shock bodies! Some other people just showed up so I will have some video tonight!
Wow! Btw quickest time with my ebuggy today was 22.74.........

Did anyone use sand paper to sand up the slipper pads some to get them to bite a little more?

Sure, sand them, but this thins them out over time. And when they get thinner the outer slipper plate starts to bottom out on the topshaft before clamping the pads enough.

Easy solution there is to add a 6mm ID shim before the inner plate.

Really not pleased with the arms on this truck. They bow over time and this is allowing more and more uptravel which causes the CVDs to flex the outdrives upward. I have never seen this on my other platforms.

My outdrives are sloppy as hell now and don't take long to puke out all the oil. I'm sure the outdrives flexing has caused the pins inside to bend the diff shims. I flipped the arms for now but they still seem too flexible.

I had to add (2) 2mm shims to the rear shocks to limit uptravel and prevent the CVDs from hitting the outdrives.

It seems like if the CVDs were a tiny bit shorter and didn't go so far into the outdrive then they wouldn't hit the outdrive as easily when at an angle.

That was Jason. He just turned 10yrs old in Aug. The real test will be in a couple weeks at the Spektrum race against Dustin, Mike and Dakotah. Ryan and Brent will be there to help though. Should be fun.

Kiro, seriously, thanks for all the info! I will be removing the pin mod tonight and save it for next summer when I hit the slippery outdoor Michigan tracks.

I wish I could have been there to watch you race on sat but I had other things going on that day. Everyone contributing to this thread is what makes RCTech so great. I have been racing for years but this is my first 4wd and it is good to have a thread like this to help get up to speed quickly on ideas, mods and setups so we can have a fun day at the track vs weeks of tuning frustration.

easier solution is to use Garodisc's!!
i am experimenting with grease instead of oil to help keep the outdrive slop to a minimum. if it leaks less than less dirt gets inside the gear case and wont eat up the housing as quick. Kyosho makes some very good dif grease, its a pain to clean when changing viscosity but it wont leak out nearly as quick. i will change the front next week after i see how the rear holds up.

Did you try the chassis as a single change by itself? I am curious as I received Jason's on Saturday. His truck is working so well now without it he told me not to change a thing. Just wondering if with the stiffer chassis I will be chasing more setup.

no, its the same setup i normally run except the ackerman setting were all the way back, that is not going to make up nearly a second in time. the truck feels much more planted and stable most noticeabley under exit acceleration and post jump. corner speed is greatly increased due to the CG in my opinion. no i dont think the chassis is 100% effective but at least 90% in my case. none of the other changes will give that big of a time difference. i had to raise the ride height up slightly due to the weight but i made no other setup changes to compensate for the chassis, just to see what it would be like. i usually run yellow springs but changed saturday (why i dont know!) the ACKbar makes a driving difference but a tenth or two at the most as it makes it more comfy to push hard. I have a lot of wheel time and am pretty good at being able to tell what changes effect the truck.

Yeah I'd say it'll get you up and down the track just fine.
