I recently rebuilt the center diff with a new casing and output bearings. I installed it in the car and have noticed that there is enough play the door gear can slide forwards and back to the point where its almost touching the guard. Any suggestions on fixing this? Or is it normal?

Default Tapered shock piston

Well, I've got kinda of stupid question here but I've searched an can't find anything that really says one way or the other.
I've got a set of the tapered pistons for my RC8be, but I'm not sure how they go in the shock body. Taper up towards the cap, or down towards the shaft?

Like I said, but if ya don't ask ya won't know.
Thanks guys

They can take some abuse and they hold up pretty darn well to what ever you dish out to the car. Worst case scenario is front shock ends brake, rear chassis mounts, rear wing mounts and make sure you loc tight anything metal to metal, because you will loose screws if you don't.

Other then that, pretty rock solid cars.

I just performed my first diff maintenance of the year and also replaced a bent dog bone. All in all it went ok... But I will share this: there has been a lot of talk in this thread about a leaky center diff and we should use mugen gaskets with sanding the diff cups. While I agree with sanding the diff cups, I'm not so sure about the mugen gaskets.

Below i have 3 shots.. One is the front diff, one is the rear, and of course the center. They are all shots I took before cleaning them up. Can you guess which one is the center diff? (hint ... It's the one in the best shape)

Stock everything fella's..... Just sanded the diff cups. Be weary of what you read on here... Tons of bench racers . Oh... And I put the yamabond on..... Figured I'd give it a try. Seems to make sense.

I'll throw in a shot of my (finally) cleaned up ride ...

Ps - not sure how to upload pics via I-phone so I'll get them in tonight and quote this message.

DONT USE MUGEN GASKETS!!!!! unless you sand the diff cups to a thickness of mugen gasket you will be replacing diffs on a daily basis.. mugen gaskets are over twice the thickness of the stock AE which is the proper thickness to mesh gears...

ran my RC8BE last weekend for first time with mugen gaskets and had to replace all 3 diffs after 1 practice run... luckily a friend had rebuild kits with him.. he went through same thing...

I know. I have them in my tool box from when everyone was claiming they were the "way to go", but I was skeptical. I wanted to see the application truly proven versus proven on the BENCH.

Glad I waited....I think the Yamabond will be a better bet.
