Don't know if the current batch of trucks has the updated pins....but Chris pins are worth it. PM hacker07.....he'll know.
Reading on here, some folks have boxes full of smoked sidewinder esc's. The RX8 with the 1410 is golden.
Ditch the stock shock towers, they're just stamped metal and will bend easy......I think most everyone has gone with the carbon fiber towers.
Our track is hard packed and loose/dusty. I ran 5/3/2 on it.....works like butta.

reason why I sold my scte. Diff issues. Yes I had Chris pins. I will pick up the Losi ten scte again if either:
* aftermarket steps up and make hardened diff internals
• Losi fix all the issues and re release the truck(like the strike)
Till then, I'm lovin my nexx10

With the correct pins the gears should all last a long time. With the excessive wear of some of the pins the gears were not supported and they got all chewed up. If there was damage to the gears before the pins were upgraded all bets were off. New kits should have updated diffs and solve all those problems.

So if I put in hard pins the diff gears will still mess up?

Those people who's pins had huge notches in the ends from wear probably screwed up their gears and should probably replace them.

That's IF you ran your car enough with the soft pins to cause abnormal wear. If you ran a couple of battery packs and then found out about the pin issue and stopped running or got Chris Pins, you should be fine. I'm using my same set of gears and they look fine but I only ran one battery pack through the truck with the soft pins.

i just said that because if you're gonna worry about it, just replace it all.

on here and other forums.
I had hard pins in mine from day one and tear the diffs down every 4 races
to keep an eye on them as well as to change oil.
My SCTE just blew the rear diff last week because the small gears got
wore concave in the back which allowed them to move away from each
other and lock up the diff. This is better then most have had happen at
least I got to finish my race. Most striped the gears clean off after the
washer behind the gear ate into the gears.
I can see on mine that the washers never ate into the aluminum blocks
and they never ate into the gear, the gear was just plain soft on the
back side and wore concave on the back side. Some of the gears were
so concave it was the size of the whole back side of the gear.
These little soft diff gears will not take the load of the wieght of thise
heavy truck for long. I run 2S only with 2 pole 550 motors I'm always
the slowest truck down the straights at every track I race at so I'm not
beating my SCTE to death with high HP's.
This is why some people are using Ofna gears with Kyosho diff shims to
repair their diffs. (A) theres no Losi parts (B) they are to soft compared
to the Ofna gears.
I'm glad I had enough insight from past R/C new products having problems
I bought (TWO) Losi SCTE trucks when I bought mine so I would have my
own parts supply to fix my SCTE.
The diff is a bad design for such a heavy truck which I'm sure Losi will
fix in time. But in the mean time we all have to put up with some kind of
diff failures in the SCTE's till Losi fixs these diffs. Pins alone will not fix
these trucks diffs...
I still love my SCTE but if the parts are not avalible to keep it running
when my spare SCTE is used up I'll have to switch to something with
less problems and a better parts supply. I race 3 to 4 days a week every
week and this will become unexceptible to not be able to race my SCTE
because of no parts supply and a bad design that is not fixed.
I believe Losi will get it right in time I just hope it's in time to not loose
a bunch of guys like me who love this truck...

No!!!! Replace the pins, that way you WONT mess up the gears. There's not a problem with the gears. The problem is solely with the diff pins. Call Horizon (Phone number posted in the very first post on page 1) and tell them that you need the new hardened replacement diff pins. Mine came already as have almost all of the people who got on the list. Lead time at this point is probably just a few days.
As an analogy, if you have a bent tooth on a pinion, it's going to chew up your Spur gear. If you never replace the pinion, you're going to keep stripping spurs. That doesn't mean there's a problem with spur gears, that means you need to change out your pinion and consequentially have to change the spur due to it being chewed up by the pinion. That is what happened with the diff gears as well. People ran them with the bad diff pins (the pinion gear in my analogy) and as a result, they chewed up the diff gears (the spur gear in my analogy). But if you change the diff pins before there's wear on them, then there will NOT be any problems with the diff gears. I hope that makes it clear to you and everybody who is questioning the gears on this truck. The diff gears are NOT a weak point of this truck.
