I'm really really disappointed. I wanted this ESC so badly. I read a bit of this thread but not the whole 1200+ posts. A friend recommeded the vtx10r as a great speedo and would handle 550 motors. I ordered it based on this and then I find that it won't do nonsensored? My current motor of choice is the castle 1410 but I do like to run a 550 Ballistic sensored motor some times.

I just never heard of a sensored ESC that wouldn't also work with a non sensored motor.

Oh well, otherwise looks like an awesome ESC. I was excited about getting it.

Apparently I'm out of the loop on this one. Is this correct? The Viper wont work non-sensored? What happens if you loose a sensor wire mid race?

if you use long enough sensor wires and route them nice and tidy you wont really have a problem.

I can wire up my esc to a vxl motor to test if you want? lol not sure its going to work to well.

ummm Novak pro esc only works on a sensored motor as well as i can not get it to work with a VXL 10T motor

re read the manual and its for a sensored motor only

i hope this Viper product is different as i was planning on buying 1 or more of there esc's to run with my VXL motors but looks like i might have to change that plan now as well

Maybe I missed it in all the posts, but other than the motor limit is there any other difference between the 10 and the 10R?

The 10R has a lower internal resistance, and has a double layer of FETs.

The VTX10 and VTX10R are fully designed and tested to run as a high end sensored system, more specifically with our VST series motors. The highly complex software and tuning options are all based off the sensored operation and would not work properly sensorless. We chose to operate it sensored only for the most consistent and reliable performance. We apologize if some of you purchased it not realizing your motor would need to be upgraded as well.
Viper will be offering other esc's in the future that will support both sensored and sensorless operation, the first to hit the market being the VTX8 which we are developing right now

There are several out there. The LRP SXX V2 and SXX TC Spec V2 only run sensored, same with KO's 1s esc, and I know the Novaks tend to stop running if the motor sensor fails.
My apologies for your confusion. Please let us know if there's anything we can do for you.

well i just bit the bullet and ordered the 7.5T and the esc with pro gauge

this will go into my current Hyper SC bump edition which is currently running a 10T VXL system

i think this combo should be a massive improvement on my current combo
