I've been running the Extreme stock speedy with a SP 21.5T for some time with good results.
I have now moved up to 13.5t so I decided to try out the HW motor, it ran quick, stayed cool and imploded after 5 1/2 mins.
The magnet disintegrated inside the motor, I hope this was a one off, I have been reading that the new HW motors have good quality control.
I'm currently sorting out a replacement with my vendor (who has been awesome help from the start).
I hope it was only a once off, time will tell I suppose.

How much difference does adding mechanical motor timing make
Is the timing calculated from this point or is it in the overall equation
Eg; motor timing 10 deg + boost/ turbo etc

What is your RO ? Normally they dont explode unless its rev'ing really high. I have blown up a novak rotor this way.

The end bell (Motor timing) make a huge difference. Esp with the HW.

And you have it exactly right too. Total Timing=Motor Timing + ESC Timing.

My own experience is some motors requre/like alittle end bell timing to keep the starts smooth. I also found that when running HW without end bell timing, i cant keep up to the other cars on the track. So I run about 15deg on the endbell (novak 17.5, 1S)

My FDR is 7.29, pretty much what the other guys in my class run.
I will be trying 6.97 next time.
Not sure how to calculate roll out, using sorex tyres.

Thanks Angelo, I'm sure it was just a manufacturing fault?
Thanks for sorting a new motor so quickly, as I posted earler, my FDR was at 7.3, which is what we all run at our track for 13.5 (40m front straight).
Does that sound right for the HW motor?
It has been suggested that the HW motor is more tourquey than SP and Tekin etc, is this true?
Should I be running taller gearing?
Maybe something closer to 6.0 FDR, or maybe even lower?

Ben

On your straight where was the motor topping out? Very early or near the end of the straight. If toppping out early I would think your gearing was off and hence revving too hard .. hence the exploding rotor

Of course it would also depend on what settings you are using on the ESC

To be honest, it felt pretty much the same as the Ion3, topping out near the end.
Definitely wasn't peaking too early.
Boost is on 30, acc 250, turbo is on 30, 6deg/0.1 sec, 0.2 delay. (off the top of my head)
